These things have been pointed out to him a few times before, but he won't listen. Facts mean nothing to bible thumpers. It ahd to be divine intervention or some such suprnatural crap. (BTW, supernatural=bullshit) Do you believe in ghosts too, arch? The tooth fairy? Easter bunny?

Indeed.
You all do not hate . . . children!!
I feared coming to this particular discussion seeing how it is 60+ pages and from what I have read, it does not seem that the individual is interested in learning.
I asked ed to ask if he ever chose which Flood Myth in Genesis we should consider accurate. The two main ones are mutually exclusive.
I mean the differences in animals is very important!
The failure of the myths to account for reality are staggering. How did the platypus find its way back to Australia?
Which animal carried the Ebola?
The inspiration for my calculations was trying to remember a much more clever calculation I read years back. Basically, someone figured out how much . . . er . . . "biomass" the beasties would produce and the man-hours it would take to shovel it. Needless to write, it buries the Flood Myths. I have heard fundamentalists claim YHWH "shrunk" the beasties, but there is no textual support for that.
I am also interested in the introduction to the Flood Myths. Both represent the standard motiff of "Gods Worried People Getting Uppity." The opening to the chapter has the wonderful fragment of the "sons of the gods"--bene elohim--coming down to "dance the light fantastic" with "da wimminfolk." They found a race of heroes that would become "giants" with some interesting mistranslations. Some scholars speculate that this was "the reason" for the Flood and part of the story was lost when the J writer compiled it.
Do I even want to look at the Exodus threads?

NO THEY'RE NOT!!!!!!! THERE ARE NO CONTRADICITIONS IN THE BIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! YOU JUST HATE THE BIBLE LIKE ALL SCIENTISTS!!!!!!!!!!!! EVOLUTION HAS NO BASIS IN REALITY.!!!!!!!!!!!
(Sorry....thought I'd audition for Arch's part for a moment.)

Do you know what that constitutes? The idea that our children shuld be subjected to such drivel? Treason, pure and simple. We revert to a medieval mindset while our competitors advance.
Amazing in the year 2006.
That's an extraordinarily valid point, Ed. After breakfast I have to do some research.
Later, boys.

Been examining this question, Ed, and it is approaching crisis proportions.

Just one of the pithy comments in this article.
Twenty years ago, the United States, Japan and China each graduated a similar number of engineers, and more than twice the total coming out of South Korea.
By the year 2000: Chinese engineering graduates had increased 161 percent to 207,500; Japanese engineering graduates had increased 42 percent to 103,200; South Korean engineering graduated had increased 140 percent to 56,500; and credible and in fact very conservative estimates place India’s production of engineers today at more than 100,000 per year.
Meanwhile U.S. engineering graduates have declined 20 percent to 59,500.
Besides, of those less than 60,000 graduates, how many are foreign students?
One wonders how many useless "divinity students" we turn out at the same time, all eager to cash in on the god-scam?

Flood" rainfall=10^9*0.00081495 = 814,950ml/m2/hour.
since i am not a hydrologist, i would need to send these figures to someone i trust but again, you are assuming an altitude and volume we cannot in any certainty do.
you can present all the calculations you want but since you weren't there you are only assuming the possibility and not presenting a fact.
plus, that kind of pressure would inevitably alter the geography, the size and forms of hills, valleys etc. so you are in fact helping to prove the Flood not disprove it.
along with the fact that dead bodies float, among other things it is easy to understand that we would find the masses of bones depicted by Hapgood and place them in fissures as described by Rehwinkel.
[/quote]And there we go again. His main argument is from a book over half a century old by Alfred Rehwinkel.
there you go being hypocritical as i am sure you rely on texts much older for some of your points. age of the book doesn't disqualify its value. it only matters when it is a book from my side and presents logical arguments against your position.
These things have been pointed out to him a few times before, but he won't listen.
no, because you do not present the whole picture. just one that benefits your side and not the true scenario.
remember that Korea also produced the rev. sun myung moon
and america has produced, ted bundy, jeffery dahlmer, john wayne gacy, the green river killer and many many more, oh and george bush andhis gangof thugs....so what is your point?
Which animal carried the Ebola?
not even pertinent to the issue

and you want to give them evolution instead? ha ha ha evolution basically allows for behavior to go unpunished. it teaches no punishment for wrong doing, no judgment no discipline and so on. the Bible gets to you because God shows that there is judgment and punishment waiting for those who do wrong and continue to live in sin.
it isn't the story itself that bothers you, it is the message it carries thus you want to invent something or discredit this story so you can continue following /believing what you want.
the United States is falling behind in the production of graduates in these fields.
the Bible doesn't stop people from being scientists nor using science. that is a personal choice made by individuals who pursue what they desire. don't place the blame on religion as all those countries have christians as well.
i have never stated an oposition to science, just the process and conclusions of those who misapplythe evidence.

thins messed up on thatlast post, hope you can read it okay.
Here is a question for you to ponder:
with the ability to choose given also to secular researchers, who have rejected God's morality, why would they present the evidence in a manner that would undermine their own beliefs and discredit their own life's work?
it takes a lot of honesty to present the evidence in a way as to say one has been wrong; how many people have that level of honesty?
next, who can trust a secular researcher, who has rejected God's morality, to be that honest? only those who do not want to believe the Bible.

See? You think like a bible-thumper. Given a chance (which you have had repeatedly) to evaluate the scientific reality that the bible is nothing but horseshit you know that you, as a bible-thumper still look to deny it.
Real scientists find the evidence FIRST and then develop theories from it. They may be wrong - in whole or in part - but at least they base their opinions of evidence.
You start with a fable and reject anything that calls your god tales into question.
That is a significant difference.

nothing wrong with that approach. i prefer following someone with their eyes open not with 'eyes wide shut'.
