The Tower of Babel

I am getting into a debate elsewhere with a former (banned) member from here on this.

He is claiming remains of the "Tower of Babel" have been found: on the details I know nowt and he has not cited any learned references.

Is there anything out there?

C'mon Rudy...when has Arch ever known his ass from his elbow?

There are ziggurats throughout Mesopotamia as they were part of the religious rituals of the Sumerians. There is, otherwise, not a single shred of actual evidence that there is any truth to the Tower of Babel story.

Most likely, when the Judaeans were exiled in Babylon they got a close up look at a Ziggurat and concocted a story about it.

That's a good start Min, thanks.

I started from the supposition that it was a cover story for the fact that the one people in Genesis spoke more than one language.

No one has to take those two morons seriously to debate them. I used it as a glorious opportunity to tell him what a shithead he was.

Here's a bit better explanation of how etiology works.
As for the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah itself, the story is serving an etiological purpose again. The question being answered here is, "why is the Dead Sea Plain salty and infertile?" Geologists say the reason for this is that the Dead Sea has been slowly receding (more quickly in recent decades) and leaving behind the

Can't hide anything from you, can we?
Since the KAbridge forum with it's nonsensical debates I'm enjoying the peace, the common sense, and the much more interesting intellectual level overhere.

Beats the whingeing about having to hide tits from supervisors at Korean schools...

Since the extant ruins of Ziggurats have been dated and/or associated with a king and since we have lists of the known and even mythical kings of Akkad/Sumer both before and after the deluge; who then is the king of the tower of Babel? Because if one claims the famous tower is found, one can probably name the "Nimrod" of the scripture, which is a feat no one has accomplished yet, in 1800 years of biblical scholarship.

Monk....you never want to confuse Arch with facts. You should recall that doesn't work.
