Listeros,

150,000 Olmec stone whistles have recently been found at the Olmec site of San Lorenzo. They are made of black ilmenite.

Erik Boot has posted the extensive report from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (in Spanish) at his Mesoamerica News site here;
http://ancient-mesoamerica-news-updates.blogspot.com/

He has also provided a very complete report from Roberto Velazquez Cabrera on these Olmec stone whistles published in 2001 and edited again in 2004 with a sound file here;

That seems like a lot of whistles.

Can you imagine the din?

Have you been to a big time football game lately?
Making noise is a definite part of the experience.
