Overhand Throw?

Changes in bone shape left by a life of overhand throwing hint that Stone Age humans regularly threw heavy objects, such as stones or spears, while Neanderthals did not.
and
Studies of elite handball and baseball players suggest that frequent overhand throwing from an early age permanently rotates the shoulder-end of the humerus toward an athlete's back, compared to people who haven't spent much time hurling.
It's an interesting analogy but a ballplayer (particularly a pitcher) will throw 100 times a day, rest two days, have a workout session and then another day off before going out to throw another 100 pitches. A hunter who needs to make 100 throws is going to starve to death.

Minimalist -

Not to mention that sidearm throwing

Which uses an entirely different geometry, may

Be almost as efficient, if not equal to,

True overhand throwing.

Review the throwing styles of major league baseball pitchers.

When throwing docklines - and this is on big boats -

So they are heavy, the style is always sidearm.

I wonder how the atl-atl figures into this?

Who was our atl-atl champion?

Are these people supposed to be knowledgeable about something, if so, what exactly?

"Who was our atl-atl champion?"

I won't go so far as to call myself a champion, but I did play with one for a couple of days.
Even made one and 2 darts.

The guy teaching the course always demonstrated it with a true overhand throw and I don't see how you could use it sidearm.
To get the max power, you have to use your back as well as your arm.
Literally from the knees up.

What surprised me was the sophistication of the dart.
They have to flex to work.
It isn't just a piece of straight wood.

I got to the point I could hit something the size of a mammoth from 25 yards, but never a deer.

A bow and arrow is much easier to use.

Which ever method of casting is adopted the spear thrower will still increase the power KB, so the advantage to the thrower is still considerable.
