Found this article regarding scientists findings that the prevailing wind direction during the ice age - 14,000-36,000 years ago was from the East!! This might have had a great impact on peoples moving from Europe into the Americas.

Thanks Sam! I haven't shared much on forums before and had to redo the URL to get it working - thanks for adding link for me.... This particular news could mean there were vastly different circumstances for travel back in those days that may have affected peoples planet wide. I keep those interactive maps on my desktop for sea and land level changes for certain periods. It helps when reading an article about new finds to know what there sea level situations were to get a better idea of what was going on at the time. Archaeology has been a hobby of mine since I lived in Ohio near the Serpent Mounds.....I also collect old county, area history books for what the early settlers say was there when they arrived. Don't care if the Smithsonian didn't want us to know the real facts. Thanks again. Mary

Very interesting idea.

Stafford's Solutrean hypothesis could benefit from a favorable wind.

The coming west by boat idea is looking pretty good. Would certainly shorten the travel time and of course they would be landing on the east coast. Maybe someone else said "go west young man, go west" much earlier than we thought.

And the Gulf Stream would have brought them back to Europe.

Hey, Dig....I've started 1491. Simply fascinating thusfar.

I'm still plowing through "1421," and at the rate I'm going may never get to "1434" (next on the shelf) not to mention "1491" next to it.

Maybe I'm reading in the wrong direction?

In my opinion, most likely these folks are just misinterpreting the data on the climatic results of the Holocene Start Impacts.

Once again, before the Holocene Start Impacts the Pacific Current was much warmer. That warm moist air fell as snow on today's Canada, reflecting sunlight back into space, result: Ice Age. Following the Holocene Start Impacts, the Pacific Current is colder, less snow falls on Canada, more sunlight is absorbed, the planet warms. The signs of this cold melt water are sometimes taken to indicate another cooling period, but in my opinion this is likely another misinterpretation of data.

We'll see.

14,000-36,000 years ago, at the height of the last ice age, the north Atlantic Ocean was permanently covered with a solid sea ice pack. Many meters thick. Its edge about a line from Bretagne, France, to Martha's Vineyard! You could walk from western Europe to America! So they probably did.

Well, after Michelle's intervention I first tried to connect to the forum server via another IP address – located in my region! But I got the same as before: the server couldn't be found.
Then I tried still another IP address, this one through a proxy server probably located very far from where I am. The US, Russia, or China come to mind as the best odds, statistically. That worked! I got in! First time in months!

This gives me firm reason to suspect that my original, first IP address, the one I always use(d) to log on, is just one in a whole bunch of IP addresses, located right here in this region, that were banned 'en bloc' by the server that the board is hosted on. So my sleuthing concludes that some rogue IT type with access to this server threw a blanket IP ban on a whole 'group' of geographically located IP addresses. Probably thousands, if not a greater magnitude...

Anyway: I got in. Albeit via proxy server. And that is far from ideal, very flakey, actually, because it doesn't work on all links within the board, so that I have to re-establish a new connection (via the proxy server) all the time...
