CAIRO (AP) - Archeologists have unearthed 57 ancient Egyptian tombs, most of them containing a painted wooden sarcophagus with a mummy inside. The Supreme Council of Antiquities says the oldest tombs date back to around 2750 B.C. Twelve of the tombs belong the 18th dynasty which ruled Egypt during the second millennium B.C.

This should keep Zahi busy for a while.

Then he's got to pull his finger out because he's got a backlog: afaik we're still waiting for an extensive report on last year's 53 tombs!

For one thing: were these 57, and last year's 53 tombs found close together? As in a cemetary (or 2 cemetaries)? If so, it looks like that (or both) cemetar(y)(ies) was/were in use for many centuries, the better part of a millennium even! That would be notable, wouldn't it?
