I see in the news where they are spectulating on "possible" Patuxent River -"Hopewell" connections.

No surprise, as fossil sharks' teeth from the Chesapeake Bay deposits were found in "Hopewell" graves.

Speaking of, does anyone have an image of a Fourche Maline culture point? I have the base of a broken head that I found tilling just south of the Arkansas River ages ago and I'm fairly certain it's caddoan but would like an earlier comparison.

In regards to sharks tooth trade, was the Gulf another source?
The fossil shark's teeth are different.
One wonders if they had a functional use besides status display.

The Fourche Marche culture appears to preserve many earlier archaic features - the serated edge points and the polished stone gorgets. Either that or the dating is wrong.

This mystery is solved.

The Powhattan identified the Patuxent as being Massa/womeke to John Smith.
They also identified the Shawnee on the upper Potomac as being Masswomeke.
In a way this reminds me of the Kickapoo

The Andaste identified the Masswomeke as being their deadly enemies.
The earliest gun trade went from the French to the Huron, who in turn traded with the Erie, who in turn traded with the "Massawomeke"
Thus the Andaste allied with the Seneca to destroy the Erie, a very bad decision on their part.

You also have Pilgrims appearing at Kent (or is that Palmer) Island...

Perhaps more on Adena beliefs is yet to be recovered from Dutch or Swedish manuscripts, in particular those of their priests.
