Barsoom Dig
John Carter is organizing now for the next expedition.
Any volunteers?
I am checking my packing and supplies list - good suggestions about essentials appreciated. I haven't been there yet.

Yeah, at those altitudes that's almost a given.
I'm thinking of the kinds of tools REALLY useful on this dig. Certain types of bones and artifacts may pose particular challenges, eh? And do you think we might need any especially large artifact storage bags or special wrapping materials? How about molding supplies? Or will mold be that much of a concern?
Carter's counting on us to make sure a truly professional job is done this time. Some of you may remember what happened to him the last time he was out there.
Anyone else interested?

This dig is absolutely a high-altitude job, extreme conditions. Sort of combines the stuff developed by John Hilton in the Tibetan style. Really interested in figuring out what we'll need to do a truly pro job at excavating the long-forgotten ruins and assembling a first rate team of experts and volunteers. Carter's counting on us.
Minimalist, I think you've got the time and interest. Drop me a note and let's see what else we can come up with to add to the thread for the others, eh?

Slight correction
Only some of the terrain around Barsoom should require extreme weather supplies. The main regions of this locale are reported by Carter to be much more hospitable. Regrettably, today there is nothing left of the ancient and unusual civilization that was once there. That's one reason for the John Howard Carter expedition.
I have just been told that if we want to perhaps enjoy a libation around the campfire after a day in the digs, we have to bring it all with us. Even if the native culture still survived, there was no whiskey there.

See that? That's the kind of rampant stereotyping that I just hate. Everyone thinks that because i'm retired I have all the time in the world and............
Oh, wait. I do.
Nevermind.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Hey, can we find more like that in the dig? I dig it.
Now look again at that fantasy painting - makes me think of the cover for Coronado's personal copy of "Guidebook to the Seven Cities of Cibola" - surely we can get SOME idea about what kind of supplies we will need for this dig.
Yes?
And Beagle - you check that out, too. You mentioned a prize? Can't think of anything greater than John Carter's esteem, can you?
