We really don't have a "left", Dig (and we need one desperately!) What we have is a center and then we have a right which is trying to move even further to the right.
The "right" has chased out even those Republicans who dare disagree with them. On anything. In a freak kind of thing - the right has become as dogmatic as the Communist Party.
Or your average church.

The Democrats have only been solidifying their own dogma for a bit less than 20 years. The Clinton era was the last major "changing of the guard" in the Democratic party. These are teh ones who push political correctness, and bad science to silly extremes. i rarely vote for any Republicrats (Jelo Biafra's word, not mine) because their parties have such an intertwined relationship with each other. So, whenever possible i'll choose another party. i'm registered Green, but even in California, Greens don't have candidates for every position. Anyway, while i identify with the Democrats sort of madness much more closely than the Republicans i could do without either organization.
