ScienceDaily (Dec. 8, 2010) — A once fertile landmass now submerged beneath the Persian Gulf may have been home to some of the earliest human populations outside Africa, according to an article published in Current Anthropology.

And probably the reason be have not yet figured out the migration into north America! The evidence is underwater

Fascinating, and it's likely that some of the nations in the area have enough money and interest to fund the archaeology.
My thoughts would be to try to find a nearby above water chert source, but then people aong the coasts my have used marine bone tools.
The 5,500 BCE occupation most likely would trade with India, in my opinion.
