The water is receding?
Yes! The land is rising in the north and tilting down in the south, where they measure 'sea level' rises and blame CO2.

There was just a program on Naked Science about this last night about the Great Lakes. Isostatic rebound. The ice was much thicker and thus heavier in the north than in the south with the result that the land was depressed more.

If you take a look at a map of the UK Min the pivot point is about from the Wash to the Severn estuary. North of that line the land is risng and south of it sinking due to the ice from the last maximum.
By the time you reach the north of Scotand the rise is close on 200 ft.

And dug their own holes as well Min! :D
Yes kb, ever since the ice melted the process has been on going. The GW group will quote sea level rises here and state that within, (think of a number) of years the UK will be under water.
What they don't tell you is that the measurements are taken at a long established site in New Quay, which is sinking. They also fail to tell you that regardless of any sea level rises the south of England as far north roughly as the Thames will sink beneath the waves in about 8000 yrs.
They also fail to mention that some time about then the UK will be joined to Norway and that the North Sea will lose its connection with the north Atlantic.
But what the Hell, don't let facts get in the way of a good news headline eh?
