We're doing it to ourselves, if we don't pay attention.
Use fake IDs whenever you can!

And proxies:

And encryption:

Don't use 'social media'! Even less on your phone! If you value your privacy.
And don't use Google.com to look up stuff, but use http://www.ixquick.com/ (which does not log your IP address, unlike Google!).
And/or use a fake location: http://www.appbrain.com/app/my-fake-loc ... e.location (for Android), or http://iphonehelp.in/2009/12/17/fakeloc ... -location/ (for iPhone) to draw a red herring across your trail.
And shield your ID, credit cards, drivers license, etc. from wireless RFID readers, with an aluminium foil lining in your wallet.
And if you really want to avoid an expensive divorce (like when you're screwing around...), or years in jail (like when you're robbing the bank): switch off your phone entirely!
You need to be aware that authorities can send an invisible sms to your phone whence it dutifully reports your GPS whereabouts! They do it thousands of times every day. You could be tracked and logged as we speak! But you wouldn't have a clue.
Just a matter of time before 'third parties' know how to do that too, of course.
