Nice Boat!

Viking longships are beutiful boats

I think it took very skillfull handling. Not as forgiving as wider coastal boats that came before

To me a key thing about the Viking style boat is it’s sewn planking and the expectation that it would not be water proof.
They were expected to “Snake” or flex their way across waves.
Bailing was assumed.

This is different from any other displacement style boat I have researched.

Reed boats were expected to leak between the bundles of reeds, but the bundles themselves were expected to remain buoyant.
So, even though they may have had a hollow hull like shape, they were not a true displacement boat.
And they were often tarred for waterproofing the cargo area.
