Stupid (?) Question

This week's hot issue seems to be somebody re-dating of Neanderthal to back before there were Homos (so to speak

)
If that's the case, how do we NEWGs (Northern European-sourced White Guys) end up with some of their DNA in our generic makeup ?
Do they even think about stuff like that ?

hmmm.........perhaps we mingled with their mid eastern cousins before we moved on into an uninhabited Europe...or ....and you knew this was coming...ancient astronauts

One line in the original story...buried down towards the bottom...suggested that these events were being moved earlier in time.

“Evidence from Britain, Belgium, France, Germany and Italy is increasingly pointing to a modern human presence before 40,000 years ago,” said Stringer. “The new chronology suggests that any interaction between the last Neanderthals and the earliest moderns in Europe will similarly move before, rather than after, 40,000 years.”

Damnit, Earnie, when will you and your alien overlords stop trying to deceive people?

They live amongst us E.P......never doubt their ability to blend in...though they still have not quite mastered the male female gender concept.

That's not the reason that they are pushing the dates for the appearance of HSS farther back in time.
There's been a lot of redating of artifacts & parietal art lately. If 'they' don't push back the dates for HSS, then 'they' must give HNS credit for being the makers of such advanced art & artifacts.
Ain't gonna happen. Doesn't fit the 19th century white colonialist paradigm.
Can't let that happen, ya know?

Well stated circumspice!
Just an aside on rock art and TV documentaries.
Often when showing dancing ceremonies in east Africa I have seen the men wearing some kind of clothing below the knee to the ground.
Sometimes the only thing they wore.
No one has ever commented on it.
I am reading a book by an artist that made a living by studying and reproducing rock art.
From Europe to Africa to the Americas.
Commenting on the African art he noted the stylistically heavy legs to show the strong legs needed to chase down prey, and the below knee “armor” to protect the legs from cuts and scratches in the commonly knee high brush they hunted in.
Note that this was an artist.
He instinctively knew the symbolism and the practicality of what was being drawn.

That looks like an mri of a tumor, E.P.

The similarity is due to the computer generated false coloring used, min.
uniface, those are snake bite protectors around the lower legs. I understand the First Peoples in Florida wore similar protectors.

I never thought of snake bite protection.
Makes sense.
East Africa has some nasty ones.
But at running speeds?
Maybe duel purpose?
And they are shown, along with the empathized legs, in Spanish rock art as well.
And if they are used in Africa, Spain and Florida do we have a case of independent development or diffusion?

Admixture between AMH and Neanderthalensis almost certainly occurred in the middle east about between 60 and 80 Kya. The fossil record from the region, parsomony and the genetics align. The work of Fu and team (published Jan 2013) on the 40 kya AMH in China might prompt the ancient population substructure camp to make one last rearguard defence. I do believe there is a small community who would like to see some chronological distance put between AMH and Neaderthalensis for idealogical reasons, but any distance established in northern Europe is of no consequence to the matter of admixture. The only thing that might have changed is the date of the last specimen(s) to expire in circumstances that lead to preservation to the present day. As another poster stated lots of other dates will change too, techniques have improved and in the case of C14 calibration curves refined.

Hi ODNT -

Wrong. Sorry.

It looks to me like you are completely unfamiliar with the new fossil data from Asia, ODNT.

"Admixture" is the wrong question. See the crater shown above.

Wrong. See the well dated impact crater show above.

Firestone was working on the 14C calibration curves, but for most of this it is other isotopic dates that are used.
My understanding right now is an out of "Africa", back into "Africa'; but of course anytime there were lower sea levels the difference between "Africa" and "Asia" was far less than it is today.
