I am sorry for the clumsy way this is done.

This pdf. is one mans discovery of his family history.
In and of itself, that is not that unusual.
But what got my attention was his mention of the Telegraph Ridge.
I knew of it as the path of the trans-Atlantic cables.

(For those who do not know, the Telegraph Ridge is is a raise in the ocean bottom that goes from Newfoundland to Ireland. It is the separation point of the Atlantic and Arctic Ocean currents.)

But he claims it could be followed, long before it’s “discovery” in the 1800“s, by the difference in water color due to it being a shallow area of the open ocean.

It is thus a possible navigation tool for the Europe to NA boat path.

A search gave me no leads on this possibility.
Does anyone have any information on the idea of a surface visible color difference?

Try as I may, I cannot find a single online reference to a "Telegraph Ridge" in the Atlantic. Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the mountain range, is the closest return I can get.

It is the "Telegraph Plateau" not the "Ridge."

But all I can find is about he modern day cables.
I cannot find anything about it being known before Mathew Fontaine Maury "discovered" it.
