There will be complete careers, from graduation to retirement, based on some of what they find.
10,000 years in Britain!?!?

Sounds like the subway in Athens

or that tunnel in Istanbul.
Dig away, boys!

Let us hope digging is done with more respect and less corruption than the Athens catastrophe. But I am not holding my breath.

I would have to say it is a case of take what you can get while you can.
Face it, there would never be this kind of money spent just for archaeology's sake.
Just hope the workers do call us every time they come across something.
Make the finder a hero, not a villain for slowing up the project.
I would be in favor of a "slush fund" used by the archaeologist in charge to buy him a pint at the end of the day.
Immediate, positive, feedback usually works

I am told keeping a keen eye on EBay also works

My thought was to get position of whatever before it ever got to the e-bay level.

I didn't know that ancient artifacts were a big seller on E-Bay. I figured more like baseball card collections!

Where do you think all the metal detectorists get rid of their stuff? One of the biggest fencing institutions around. I've been told if your place is turned over and some nice stuff stolen, look on ebay (and other such sites) a few weeks after.
It has quite a large section on ancient artifacts - I buy all my punic material from Ebay and though I hope differently I am not at certain that it comes with a verified provenance.

I once heard it called:
"The worlds biggest garage sale"
