Egypt explosion: Tourists on bus injured near Giza pyramids

An explosion targeting a tourist bus has injured at least 16 people near the Grand Egyptian Museum, next to the pyramids in Giza.

South African tourists are among the injured. Most of those hurt suffered minor injuries, while three were treated in hospital, officials say.

A device went off close to the museum fence as the bus was passing.

It is not yet known who was behind the bombing but Islamist militants have attacked tourists in Egypt in the past.

In December, three Vietnamese tourists and a local tour guide were killed after a roadside bomb hit their bus.

Egyptian officials hurried to confirm everything is under control. No life-threatening injuries, all the wounded in a stable condition, and no damage caused to the strategic tourist site. They wanted to send a clear message of assurance.

But it's the second explosion in nearly six months near Egypt's most important landmark, the Great Pyramids, and once again questions are raised about how adequate security measures are in such a strategic location.

Even on the West Bank the Jews and Palestinians agree on the desirability of sucking money out of gullible tourists. Apparently the Muslim Brotherhood hasn't gotten the message.

Note the back-up at each end of the Suez as well as the number of ships going through the Med without stopping. They are on their way to Germany and Holland.

Blocking the Canal would have a world wide effect.

Absolutely. What has not changed since antiquity is that shipping by sea is the cheapest way to send large quantities of goods.

Suez will not have that problem...... for a while.

In researching this I learned a new term.
"Air draft" or max height.
A dimension set by surface to bottom of a bridge.

BTW there is a "Suezmax"
It is set by both water and air draft limits.

Also it now seems that a bridge has been built over Suez which does put a cap on how high a ship can tower above the waterline and still get underneath it.

If the ship builders can't live with that limitation they can always go back to sailing around Africa.

Yeah isn't it odd that installing a psycho General and his corrupt gang in power, arresting the democractic government and pronouncing Egyptians were some sub form of humanity, not fit for democracy has a negative effect?. Apparently virginity tests are again being used by the police and even an english tourist has been tortured to death.

Oh well one thing might be the removal of a brutal sadistic gang of psychos who routinely torture and kill to stay in power. Egpytian corruption (paid largely by the EU and US) is beyong all bounds and vast numbers of Egyptians languish in desperate poverty held down by a tyrannical bunch of killers.

Of course one answer might be to let the Egyptian people have a vote and genuinely choose their leaders and stop treating them as sub-humans, racially unfit for democracy (as one former Israeli amabassor clamined). Yes they may vote for someone the US EU and Israel do not like, but does anyone suggest the US military should remove Trump as the US has shown itself incapable of electing good leaders?

The treatment of the Egyptian people by the West over the decades has been sickening and it is only a matter of time before the country explodes. Even SA is now permitted to have free elections, not Egypt.

It's worth considering.

If they had the time they could send a few marines to get rid of the UK government as well. Wouldn't take many the Government is trying to destroy itself.
