Well...we and their art have survived to the present. The artists have not so all we have to go by is careful investigation of what is discovered as evidence.
The Great Pyramid presents the same dilemma. No one knows how it was built but there are countless hypotheses out there claiming one or another method. Most have obvious flaws...yet the Pyramid is there still.
