Rare Canaanite inscription found on ivory comb in Israel
A rare inscription that sheds new light on the use of Canaanite language some 3,700 years ago has been discovered on an ivory comb in southern Israel, archaeologists said Wednesday.
3,700 years ago puts this in the Middle Bronze Age but as the article points out the ivory is indicative of extensive trade probably with India as there were no elephants in Canaan.

Why not trade from the south? The ivory could possibly be from African elephants, rather than from Asian elephants. Canaan was a vassal state of Egypt for much of its history.

If the dating of that artifact is correct then it is Middle Bronze Age c 1650 BCE which is about 2 centuries before Egyptian control of Canaan was cemented by Thutmosis III.

Of course that has nothing to do with trade so what you suggest is possible. We do know for certain that there were extensive east-west trade routes across Asia.

Hah!

The ivory used to make the comb was most likely imported from elephants in Egypt, suggesting the material was destined for someone rich enough to afford a foreign luxury.
