Something else for the "The Earth is 6,000 Years Old" Crowd to bitch about.
The fossils show the incidence of fires through time is closely related to the level of atmospheric oxygen.
Andrew Scott and Ian Glasspool say huge swathes of the planet were ablaze when concentrations of the gas peaked some 275 million years ago.
Their research is published in the US scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Ain't ya been redin Archs posts. The test are unreliable because someone f**ked around with the specimens in an attempt to control the outcome.

What's that sound? Oh, that's right. It's another weak theory hitting the mat!
KO!

Even without the viewpoint of creationists, it's a good article. Plants make oxygen, oxygen is required by fire, fire destroys plants, plants release their carbon, carbon mixes with oxygen = CO2, and climate change.
Then it starts all over again. Well, that's part of the cycle I guess.

Most articles are improved without the viewpoint of creationists.

The thing that struck me about the article is the cumulative power of multiple disciplines. This solid evidence is used as a constraint on the more theoretical modelling but also shows that the modelling is definitely in the ballpark.

sorry but i am still laughing that you think evidence from 275 million years ago is still in existence. and you think i have too much faith and believe in magic.

Too much rain causes fire!
At least here in California, it does. If there is too much rain in winter, a lot of stuff grows. Then it dies when the rains stop in summer, dries out, and becomes fuel for fires.
Ironic, no?

You doubt the evidence of anything over 12,000 years old. How do you explain coal. Here in East Tennessee you see bands of it where they cut the mountains to make roads. That is what I call hard evidence.
Coal is a sedimentary rock formed from plants that flourished millions of years ago. Over millions of years, deepening sediment layers exerted tremendous heat and pressure on the underlying plant matter, which eventually became coal.

Oh Leona honey - he is simply not going to believe a word of that. Are you trying to confuse the poor fellow with facts?

Arch, you admit to believing in magic.
I bet you even talk to your 'god' and imagine that he answers!

I still laughing that you don't think evidence from 275 million years ago is in existence simply because you don't want to .....

that is what evolutionists tell you but they weren't alive back then nor dothey have any scientific research to back up their claims from any time period before the 1800's a.d.
so why believe them? they don't care what happens to you.
