My first post & questions

This is going to get religious, so I hope it stays true. Someone please explain something to me. We have rock hard, solid evidence that man has been here thousands of years before what most Christians think. How do Christians explain the cave man, the dinosaur, the evidence of ape beginning to walk & stand upright? Where is all this in their bible? It all surely happened, we have the evidence. Could someone explain this? No, I'm not Christian, but yes, I know the religion very well. Aaaaaaaanyway. I have to work today, so I look forward to checking in on this later tonight.
Blessings.........

LadyV - I'm just saying hello and welcome. I make it a point to stay out of these discussions.

But you'll be hearing from other folks soon.

If you have any questions about how to post here - smileys, etc. - just ask one of us.

LadyV - Like Beagle I like to stay out of these discussions, but there are a number of threads here that discuss this very subject adnauseum. But if you want answers from the 'professionals' here is a link to a Christian Archaeology site that I stumbled upon recently. I didn't read it myself, just skimmed a few pages, but it seems to address all the subjects you brought up.

On a lighter note, welcome to the club(oops that term might not be PC  around here   )

Dear LV,

Unlike some of these other wusses I make no effort to avoid the question.

You raise a pertinent question but I submit that you have to look at the issue from the reverse side.

Christian belief (at least the fundamentalist christian belief) is that the bible is the undoubted word of god.

They thus ignore the contradictions, duplications, errors, glorification of genocide and rampant sexism because to acknowledge them would mean an admission that 'god' was not perfect. It is not a logical response it is a faith-based response.

When faced with evidence of the kind you mention they simply deny its validity and cling to their fables even harder. The ultimate expression of such denial is the so called 'science' of creationism which begins with the dubious assumption that everything in the bible is literally true and then works backwards to imagine conditions in which it could be true. It works this way.

Geology tells us that there is insufficient water to cover the entire land mass of the earth. Creationists postulate that there must be more sources of water. Having made such a declaration they simply repeat it whenever a normal person says there is not enough water. They thus turn a scientific 'fact' into a matter of faith. Same with the dinosaurs. There a creationist nut jobs who insist that dinosaurs and man were together on the ark....living in peaceful coexistence. As comedian Lewis Black says, "these people see an episode of the Flintstones and think it is a documentary!"

Anyway, welcome aboard. I'm sure Arch will introduce himself soon enough.

since minimalist put me on the spot i will say hi. i wasn't planning on responding to the post because it just raises the same old issues that have been discussed over and over again.

suffice it to say that the church disregards what evolutionary researchers say basically because this so-called 'rock-solid evidence' is only evidence because these researchers say it is. not because they can prove or demonstrate that thinking.

also, they base their conclusions upon the least amount of evidence possible, especially when it comes to fossils and ignore their own principles when it suits their purposes.

along with that, when confronted with questions that cause them to look at their own theory closely or when meetings are set up to explore the issues, they run and hide (kansas), refuse to answer the questions, start screaming how no one understands evolution but them, or it is just a religious agenda.

they never are honest nor look at what they are proposing honestly prefering to hide under the mantra, we are beinbg scientific. well they aren't as science is a tool to help provide answers and all they provide are questions.

oneof the biggest questions they can't answer is ---WHY? why did evolution start in the first place? why would it take this route? why are we here? etc. none of those questions can be answered by evolution's theories.

nor canthey answer trhe questions of ---HOW? How did these transitional species meet and mate at exactly the right time? how did the original species come into existence? and so on.

so you see they have no answers, they have nothing to offer thus the church does and can reject such alternative thinking.

Just because you can't understand the answers does not mean that science hasn't found them, you know!

the church not only has accepted evolution but it has also accepted the how and the why of it
what you mean Arch is that the fundies haven't
and as everyone knows the fundies are always wrong

i have been called worse.

not just the fundamentals, but the evangelicals, the pentacostals, the holy movement, some of the mennonites, to name a few.

the church
'the church ' are those who believe in God and have believed in Jesus Christ and in His word. those that stray from those teachings, though they attend a religious function in a religious building cannot be deemed 'the church' because they accept and teach something other then God's word.

So far, even with all your double-talk and Christian links, you have not proven that the Bible is true. You claim it is because the book says so, but you have not given any scientific proof.

And don't say that you have time and again, because I've read your postings and all you do is repeat the same old religious propaganda ad nauseam.

By the way LadyV, welcome to our little corner of the asylum.
