Sounds good. I was struck by this comment concerning the Monte Alban finds from the Olmecs.
Hancock contrasts the negorid heads and caucasians from La Venta with the battle stele at Monte Alban.
At Monte Alban, however, there seemed to be carved in stone a record of the downfall of these masterful men. It did not looks as if this could have been the work of the same people who made the La Venta sculpture. The standard of craftsmanship was far too low for that. But what was certain-whoever they were, and however inferior their work- was that these artists had attempted to portray the same negroid subjects and the same goatee-bearded caucasians as I had seen at La Venta. There the scultpures had reflected strength, pwer and vitality. Here at Monte Alban the remarkable strangers were corpses. All were naked, most were castrated, some were curled up in foetal positions as though to avoid showers of blows, others lay sprawled slackly.
Archaeologists said the sculptures showed the 'corpses of prisoners captured in battle.'
What prisoners? From where?
The location, after all, was Central America, the New World, thousands of years before Columbusm so wasn't it odd that these images of battlefield casualties showed not a single native American but only and exclusively Old World racial types?
For some reason, orthodox academics did not find this puzzling, even though, by their reckoning, the carvings were extremely old (dating to somewhere between 1000 and 600 BC). As at other sites, this time frame has been derived from tests on associated organic matter, not on the carvings themselves, which were incised on granite stele and therefore hard to date objectively.
Don't know where you want to begin but I suggest this apparent lack of curiosity by scholars.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
I not sure what to make of the so-called battlefield site. I'm mostly satisfied to feel that the depictions of different races are indeed that.
I wear reading glasses. In addition to that I used my large magnifying glass to study those pictures. I think that's really important. I'm satisfied in my own mind that they do indeed depict some caucasions.
Others are a little less certain, but the Negroid face on the carved rock is pretty convincing. But I don't think anybody has an answer as to how they came to be.
The problem remains this line: For some reason, orthodox academics did not find this puzzling,
That leads to the question of, is anybody looking?

OK - I've said before that so far Hancock has not really been reporting anything new. This stuff has been out there for a long time. It's usually found under "Earth Mysteries" and in other sites and books that like to talk about arcane mysteries.
Why mainstream science hasn't taken a closer look is a pretty good question - but they do have to have funding. That may be one of the problems.
We may have lost you. But another point that I don't think should be discounted is that many of the meso-american legends mention white men with beards. I truly wish they had been more descriptive, since they might have sounded like a culture that we are familiar with.
Again, Pizarro and Cortez were helped immensely by those legends of Quetzelcoatl coming back. But where they came from and when they were there seems to be an insoluble mystery unless they find early forms of writing in Caral or some of the sites in the Amazon. Maybe the Spanish missed something?

That is a fair observation...as far as organizing a dig goes. It does not explain their reluctance to even consider the ramifications.

And that is in learned in every school in the country - or used to be.
Sam said earlier that he had seen one of these, and that the archaeologist giving the tour indeed seemed to be aware of the implications. Sam may want to confirm that again for us.
So again, I must say I don't know why no one will state the obvious.
My book is bookmarked at the end of Part Three. Again, no real news except that I disagree with Hancock that the builders of Teotihuacan had to have known the value of Pi. But that hardly seems worth mentioning.
What did you think of the apparent shared symbolism of Mayan and Egyptian myths concerning the underworld....chapter 19 in my book?

Well, on the face of it one might say that it goes beyond the realm of coincidence.
Many myths have some similarities all over the planet. The underworld is a pretty common theme, I'm not sure why. While your example is very fascinating, it would be hard to build a case on that alone. But the totality of similarity between the two cultures becomes pretty stupendous when viewed as a whole.
I once saw a book or article that showed the similarities in language and writing - what little can be gleaned from the ancient Aztecs. There are a few other things that Hancock hasn't brought up as yet.
BTW-this is a pretty good time for me usually - if it works for you. I think I'll post on this topic in the evening from now on.
Yeah...being a dedicated multi-tasker I almost get distracted watching tv and end up on the computer. Right now, I've got a ball game on in the background.
For those who may not be following us, both Mayan traditions in the Popol Vuh and elsewhere relate to the idea of re-birth as a star...an idea which shows up identically in the Egyptian Pyramid Texts. In addition, there is the curious Mayan concept of the 7th stratum of the underworld: the place where beasts devour hearts. In the Egyptian Hal of Judgement the deceased heart is weighed and if heavy with sin would immediately be devoured by a beast called the "Eater of the Dead."
Odd. Considering not only the distance but the time separating the two cultures.

Pastiche of the world, with the relevant directions to the underworld.
On the left the directions given by the Sumerians and the Egyptians, on the right the directions given by the Gaelic/Celts and Greeks. In the north the directions given by the early Norse. The star symbol is the location given by the Maya
That's a good idea and a good summary Min. I'll leave those to you.
We're going to come down to the question, sooner or later, about the nature of the contact between two cultures on nearly opposite sides of the earth. It has been asked many times. I'm not sure where Hancock is going, but he had to get his reputation as an archaeological antichrist from somewhere.
And when was there a contact? I presume that will be later in the book.
Do you think we should dwell on Teotihuacan any. I didn't see anything new and far out. BTW - he did make mention of the similarity of Giza and the layout of Teotihuacan. Two pyramids in a straight line - one offset to the left. That's a mighty big coincidence.
Interesting.....right around where the meteor landed that knocked out the dinosaurs 65 million years ago.
