i think it is a fine assessment of the way some archaeologist think and i wouldn't be surprised if it didn't happen that way in the future (well , i would since i doubt this world will be around in another 1,000 years)A pottery garbage dump makes sense to me....unless they were praying to the God of Broken Pottery....Ostrakinos.
or that the society didn't have the proper tools or knowledge to make such sculptures. All will be well until someone else says that there was no urban center near Mount Rushmore to have carved such a statue so the work must be that of aliens

but that is a good point, it is easy to see mt. rushmore being declared american gods because those same future arch. would find literature talking about those men and it would be an easy leap to conclude that the word 'president' would mean something similar to god-like status to the common people.I've used this analogy before but I can see, 10,000 years from now, archaeologists finding Mount Rushmore and declaring it a monument to our "gods
similar as tohow the pharaohs are presented today.

To Arch and Marduk
Okay, this doesn't have much to do with this thread, but then what does lately. I thought you might like to know what the Hebrew speaking world had to say about your last little bicker.
The link is at the bottom.(see note below)
The pertinent info is at the top of the second page.(I still can't figure out how to cut and paste everything in here)
ps the Rabbi says that every word in the Tanak can have at least 70 meanings, all of them different.
I suppose this actually is about ancient religion after all.

Talk about 'how many angels can dance on the head of a pin' ! Those rabbis need to do something useful and run a bingo game or something.
And Giuseppe Verdi DOES mean Joe Green. Just like Yosif Schwartz means "Joe Black."
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

even the pyramids were included in this trend. in schoch's book, 'Pyramid Quest' pg 42 there is this little blurb:
"As we will see in later chapters, some writers have sought the answer not strictly in terms of burial rites but in the context of a broader mythological and religious signifigance. Perhaps the greta pyramid was not a tomb but a templeor...a siteof initatroy rites, reflecting the liturgy found in the egyptian bookof the dead, as suggested by Marshall Adams in 1895."
