the dates fromt he c-14 tests referred to earlier, taken from 'Pyramid Quest' pg. 63-4:

The mortar, like stone, cannot be dated, but the organicmaterial embedded in it can...The results were puzzeling. Despite careful refinement and calibration, the samples avergaed 374 years earlier than the accepted dates of the pharaohs with whom they were associated. even more anomalaus were the individual findings within single monuments. Two charcoal samples from an upper course inthe khufu pyramid dated to 3809 b.c. with a margin of error either way of 160 years. ...The wood sample form the same site,however, tested to 3101 b.c. (+ - 414 years). Another 13 samples , all but two of them charcoal, from lower in the Khufu pyramid spanned a range from 3090 to 2853 b.c. with a margin of error of between 1 and 4 centuries. Sevensamples fromthe Khafre pyramid were dated to 3196-2723 b.c.; 6 from the menkaure pyramid to 3076-2067 b.c. ; and 2 from the sphynx temple to 2746-2085 b.c."

doesn't this throw doubt on schoch's theory as well as hawass'?

schoch takes the next paragraph to discuss the difficulties with c-14 dating which i am sure you do not want to hear about as it supports a lot of what i have said about the same subject.

then there is Hawass' theory on the erosion of the sphynx, taken from pg. 77-78 of the same book:

"Finally, there is the counterargument of Zahi Hawass...Hawass claims that the Sphynx was built from limestone of such poor quality that it needed repair almost immediately. The sphynx has indeed been repaired repeatedly. The question concerns when those repairs occurred and what do they signify. According to Hawass, the poor quality of limestone explains the apparant erosion, but not everyone agrees.

sounds like Hawass is protecting his theory at all cost, even if it means sacrificing some truth.

i guess with him at the helm, much evidence will be interpretated his way and very little deviance from the partyline is going to take place so that more truth comes to light.

Although the doctors are not precisely sure why this condition occurred, they suggest that it may possibly be due to a stone that fell on Dr. Hawass' head during a recent excavation.
