A Bone Flute...in Central Texas?

I have a couple questions about this flute....thing. The split which runs down the top, between the holes, is it the result of it's aging or was it part of the design? Are you certain that it is bone? If it's wood it could be a part of a fire=starting kit. It does look like a flute and if it is indeed bone then that Is most likely what it is. The split between the holes puzzles me though as it looks very straight and smooth. The individual splits between the holes doesn't line up. The two holes in the back side do look like something used to tie it to something like a necklace and perhaps the holes on top were used to tie other dangling bones or beads or shells. It could be part of something else intirely. Charlie you're doing good work and I'm gonna get down there one day. BTW if you're still ignoring Marduk, he did apologize and I suggest you take him off ignore. He's a smartass, but he's pretty intelligent.
(Sorry, Steve

Were Arch and GV banished? I was noticing a distinct change of character in here too, coinciding with a couple of noticeable absences.....Frank Harrist wrote:LOL Steve. Ok, I won't remind you again. Actually I was just filling Charlie in, but he woulda figured it out soon enough anyway. Things seem to be running pretty smoothly here lately. No more trolls?

If you are going to disagree with a published report, you write a reply to it in the same peer-reviewed journal
Assuming that they publish it.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

I have been absent from this forum for a while due to my current circumstances. I did ask Michelle to ban the two aforementioned trolls and since they are noticeably absent from these discussions of late I can only assume that she did so. I haven't the authority to do it myself or I would have done so. I for one do not miss either of them.
Bob, I do not know the pre-requisites for having one's work published in any "peer reviewed" publication. I assume that the editors would have to accept one as a peer. I don't think they would consider me as such as I do not have letters after my name, but I don't really know. I do think that a well written and referenced article would at least be considered, no matter one's credentials. Also anyone can publish their own book.

They do - I've read them. Both sides of the arguement. The Pendejo Cave site has a 900 something page book on it.Minimalist wrote:If you are going to disagree with a published report, you write a reply to it in the same peer-reviewed journal

Actually you probably won't get published, at least not in any of the major journals, if you don't have the educational credentials. For every serious avocational archaeologist out there that has a good idea and honest intentions, there are a couple thousand whackjobs out to prove that aliens built the pyramids. You do have to get the education to get recognized, but to me it just makes sense.Frank Harrist wrote:I have been absent from this forum for a while due to my current circumstances. A pro's opinion...Charlie,
Looks like a flute that, as you suggested, has cracked on the side with the finger stops. Neat.![]()

Frank, you know you've got an open invitation and a place to stay whenever you find the time is right. All you need is enough gas to get here and back home. I've got the rest.

Hey Steve.
Your the resident expert on ancient Gods. These guys seemed to be really into birds. Perhaps some kind of worship?

Also, though it may not be readily apparent from the photo, I've found this disk that appears to portray an individual with a bird head dress (right profile, looking up):

And then, this individual (right profile):

It's baffling to me?
Especially in North America.

Charlie, archaeologists are supposed to be serious people!
that second piece with the curving lines looks like European -derived
(roman) design, popular in th 18th and 19th centuries. Maybe the midden from an anglo town upstream got washed into your creek, or maybe there was a 19th century foundry there...didn't you show us some pictures one time of a big round surface in a nearby creek?.
Still don't understand why anybody would build a foundry in a creek, where it was subject to being cold and wet. You know what happens when water and molten metal mix?
BUt maybe when these square holes were made, the creek was somewhere else.??

I don't generally hold with banning anyone but that's just the anarchist in me coming out. Arch can be a pain in the ass but he has some good thoughts. GV was using the site to promote his book though, and that is something else.

For the same reason that most human activity is created near water....humans need water?
