Restored ancient brothel opens in Pompeii

The "Lupanare" - which derives its name from the Latin word "Lupa" for "prostitute" - underwent a one-year restoration of its structure and decorations, the local office overseeing the famed tourist spot said. The brothel is believed to be the most popular one in the ancient Roman city.

The two-floor structure, decorated with explicit erotic frescoes, has 10 rooms, five for each floor, and a latrine. The better-decorated upper floor was destined for higher-ranking clients. The stone beds were covered with mattresses
I always find it fascinating how certain things never change. I recently read somewhere that they had uncovered very colorful paving stones that pointed the way to the 'redlight' district of Pompeii and some of the graffiti could have been found on any present day wall.

Oh!

When you said it re-opened I thought you meant that it really re-opened!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

There was an update on this item which included new info for me at least(I never knew about the howling prostitute inspiring the name)

The Lupanare, named after a prostitute who would howl to signal customers (Lupa in Latin means 'she wolf'), opened this Friday following a 253,000-dollar restoration that repaired the multiple-bedroom structure and cleaned up its sexually graphic frescos.

Archaeologists expect it to become one of the top destinations among visitors touring the ancient city's ruins.

However, unlike the days when it was in full operation, now no more than 10 people at a time will be allowed to enter the ancient brothel.
