Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

HI, just a note to say how much I have enjoyed reading here over the past few years. I've loved archeology and digging up things since I was a kid...and put on my first grade "what do you want to be when you grow up" form..Archieologiest and Arthur :D

I can't compete with the brains on here so I've never been brave enough to post...but I really like the anti-club atmostphere. I believe that "nything is possible, and we know 1% of what there is to know, and half of that is wrong.

I'm a possibility thinker, a little bit of a conspiracy theorist....not in the black helicopter sort of way, but in the "why don't they want us to know this" sort of way. The more they don't want me to know, the more I MUST know.

I read just about anything on the subject (archeology et al..old stuff) that I can get my hands on...got my own ideas. Kick me, but I've been a firm believer in Neanderthal Nan and Homo Harry knocking boots and spawing for many many years. I'll have to wait many more for "proof". (My theory is based on applied logic, not DNA or fossils. Man + Woman..few or no other choices...so what if she's not so hot, throw a flag over her head and....that's just logic..the nature of man...it's just logical.)

Speaking of which, the item I saw posted which got my drawers in a bunch was one I cannot even find now, can't remember where I saw it but of all the things I've seen on this site, this one got my goat so badly I immediatly tried to join up so I could retort...sadly the system did not accept me and I've lost my train of thought. I did have the foresight to search my history and refind the site I visited that got me riled:

http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0055/0055_01.asp

I had a chortle over this and thought I'd point out the hamartia.

Xians believe the earth is only about 6 thousand years old because the bible tells them so...however the xian student in this tract had apparently forgotten that because his argument to the professor about the "modern" skull found by Leaky in a stratum that was 212 million years old...proved evolution didn't happen...and that the bible was true. (Insert head spinning around!)

Hello. (I'm horrible at math...but whats 212 million minus 6k? That kid needs to rethink his bible math).

Bad xian, bad xian. :D

I have to say that I was never inspired to join here earlier because it seemed that ARCH fellow had the religion thing injected into every subject. Science and religion have nothing to do with each other, (unless of course one makes a God from Darwin or ..I dunno, GW?) Faith is one thing, reason is another. Keep 'em separate. To even attempt to base a science on a religious document immediately dooms one to failure...in knowlege and progress. Can't debate it because neither side knows anything :D

If I had a faith that demanded I remain ignorant of my circumstances; where I came from and where I'm going (I being the human race) then I supposed I'd ignore what science was doing since it cannot possibly be true in the first place... Jesus said so! I'd figure the dreamers and searchers for fools, and go about trying to redeem the world by knocking on doors and praying. I'd certainly not waste my time arguing with the lost :D Which is why I never joined up really. A rock is what it is, nothing more nothing less. It's creation, composition, and situation, are "carved in stone". What we can learn from it, what it can tell us, and what we DO with that information, well that's our story, not the rock's. The earth is ancient because the rocks have taught us (in Indian lore the rocks are our grandfathers) and that knowlege is what it is, and nothing can change that, it can only be added to...which makes all the stupid arguements going on between Xians and scientists a total waste of time.

I should have tried again to find that post in order to answer it in the proper place with a chortle that came a little too late, but maybe it's best stuck in here so I can say my piece and get out of the way and let the brains around here get back to business entertaining and stimulating my mind and imagination.

What Charlie is doing....he's the luckiest man on earth. I live vacariously through each of his picture posts. Green..it makes me green, and yet the possibilities of what he's doing, and it's EVENTUAL acceptance (maybe in a hundred years?) Or a find so GLARING, so IN THEIR FACE, that they will be forced to sit up and take notice.

I'm glad to be here..I read every morning and each evening. I really appreciate what Michelle does with that web page...(and no one cheered louder than I even though you couldn't hear me) when that religious crap went away.

As for the pyramid in Bosnia thing...I cannot imagine why that subject gets folks so riled up. I'd need someone to convince me it was scientifically impossible that a pyramid could NEVER be built in Bosnia, ever...by anyone, before I'd stand up and say it's NOT, NO WAY. I like my jury system, or the "show me" means of thinking. It's nothing until they show me what it is, but, it COULD be until it isn't. I'll wait and see.

Oh, and one more thing that just burns me up, that whole anti-stem cell reseach bull crap. Once again religion interfering with science. Making a cell, which is merely potential life (because it's not a life until it IS) more valuable that a living breathing human being..they claim God loves all human lives...well, based on what I've read of their bible...I must take issue with that...for loving human life so much, God sure as hell did a lot of "smiting"...and for stupid things like masturbation (Onan) and accidentaly seeing your father nekid...and really, what's with the whole "he LORD will smite thee with the botch of Egypt, with the emerods, {hemmroids}and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed" thing?

There is WAY too much smiting going on...perhaps if there was less smiting in the world...but then, humans seem to be taking after their father

Thanks!

To be completely fair, I used to egg Arch on something fierce. However, he has stated to me via e-mail that if the bible is not "100% right" then there is no hope for mankind.

Looks like mankind is royally fucked, I guess.

Looks like mankind is royally fucked, I guess.
If we're fucked royal or otherwise, we have only ourselves to blame. But if life really IS a circle (and for odd reasons, I tend to believe it is) then there really is nothing new under the sun and we will continue to do what we do Up and down, around....until we don't.

We don't need the bible to be OK. We need only use what was given us through time..our brains. I'll post a bit of a rant I went on a few months ago :D

"Jesus aka son of G_D, aka Allah et al, is supposed to be keeping people in line? That scares me. If the current day believers are IN LINE what the HELL would the world be like if they weren't?

Case in point, the eternal conflict in the middle east (thanks for that Abraham if you had just kept your robe down...) starvation in Darfur, Somalia, and the corrupt, evil government of the United States, whose leader feels it is immoral and against his religious belief to kill a cell, but dammit, its OKAY to torture prisoners and kill anyone else he feels like; because he's on G_D's side.

OK review..G_D gave us cells for the same reason he gave us grapes. We figured out a way to make wine, we also figured out a way to use cells to cure horrible diseases (also invented by G_D since he is the master of all creation)...OUR PRESIDENT who, by the way, utilizes the grape, thinks it is bad to use a cell to heal, but OK to kill bigger cells as long as we really dont like them. I wish he'd get angry at the little cells so we can find a cure for horrible diseases.

G_D HATES SIN, but didn't he create sin? Using the religious logic (God is the creator of all) of course he did. Why, if he was so all knowing, and all he really wanted was little people to worship him, why the hell did he make that apple tree and tell them not to touch it???

Anyone who has kids knows the mere act of saying DON'T TOUCH IT, is a sure fire way to make sure they do...then he goes and blames the little, brand new, innocent people he just made for touching something as beautiful as an apple; something he knew they were going to do when he made them and then on top of that he punishes the woman MORE by making her suffer in childbirth...and then starts smiting them for stupid shit.

This can only be man logic. Either that or a cosmic board game between the GODS. Taken at face value it does seem a bit masochistic. "Ah kids, heres an apple tree, I know you are going to touch it because I am G_D and I know everything. I am already thinking up a great punishment for you"...ZAP...SIZZLE...CRACKLIN' GOOD SNACK FOR SATAN

Jesus saves. And I'm darn glad he does. If he didn't save at least a small segment of the population and terrify them into good behavior, this world would be even MORE screwed up."

I can get going on a subject sometimes...I'm too logical to buy the Jealous ANGRY God...it's giving the supposedly Godly and Holy Being WAY too many human characteristics..and doesn't that make us comfortable?

I feel sorry for the kids (there really ARE kids like that) like the one in that CHICK tract. They come out of Xian homes and schools and get thrust into the real world and their faith is challenged at every turn. Either they bury their heads deeper, or they lose it all together, and neither is a workable solution.

Science is not religion the two can never be compatable. Science begins as theory and is either proven or disproven by empirical study...FACTS. (Like the earth is not flat, because we have proven that it is round...no matter what the bible says..link..and they are NOT kidding:http://www.lhup.edu/~dsimanek/fe-scidi.htm)

Religion requires us to suspend reason in favor of the miraculous, and some of us do, because we need to, not because the miraculous is a fact. Most humans, having the nature that we do, NEED to have some sort of connection with what we feel is bigger than us, the divine. The fear of death is so pervasive in this world...and amazingly for the most part, the most fearful of death are the Xians, the very ones who are supposed to be looking forward to being with the Lord. I think they're afraid...because despite all the fire and brimstone, they aren't really SURE. ARE they good enought to avoid eternal damnation? WILL they live eternally on streets of gold singing hallelujah for infinity? Fear is born from uncertainty..and in my life experience I have NEVER seen anyone try harder to stay alive, including life support for years, than Xians. I never did get that.

Even as a child I chortled at the virgin birth. I thought...who does he think he's kidding (of the pastor)...unless the holy ghost has a holy penis and extra holy sperm an immaculate conception is the wishful thinking of the girl in trouble. I was unable to suspend reason in order to BELIEVE in the miraculous. (Not to mention that only ONE of the gospels mentions it, and that was written at least 90 years CE, and certainly NOT contemporary. Scholars believe the virgin birth was woven into the narrative to give the Xian God as much mystical importance as other contemporary-born-of-virgins Gods, you could say it was a case of "everybody's doing it"...link here for more information http://www.vexen.co.uk/religion/matthew.html)

As far as our being fucked, Dalai Lama said (December 8, 1999):

"Change only takes place through action, not through meditation and prayer."

The ones I feel saddest for are the suicide bombers who, deprived of sex in life, really believe there are 72 virgins waiting for them for eternal blow jobs and orgies. 72? I can't remember when the last time I met a virgin

And as for Arch and the "fucked if the bible's not right" comment. Considering the contemporary interpretations of the book of Revelations and the ferverent fundamentalist belief that it is literal, we're fucked if we do, and fucked if we don't :D (except of course for those dancing skeletons raised from their graves rising in the sky to meet him...heaven help the bones in the museums :D we're all in for a fright.)

Yes, we are an odd lot, I'm damn glad to say. Welcome Clubs. I also joined because as a thinking individual I couldn't swallow all that was fed to me. I also joined to air my views, to have them criticized, to have them corrected and to learn and to listen to other views.
And I've enjoyed myself as well. What could be better?

Aw, shit ... does that mean we don't get the Rapture? I like the Rapture! It's right up there with 72 virgins ... hey, there goes that number 72 again, eh? 8)

Well, if there's no hope for mankind we might as well make the best of this Forum while we have time left. Welcome, Clubs. :D

At my age I'm more worried about The Rupture.
