MEXICO CITY – A 2,500-year-old city influenced by the Olmecs – often referred to as the “mother culture” of Mesoamerica – has been discovered hundreds of miles away from the Olmecs' Gulf coast territory, archaeologists said.
The remains of Zazacatla are providing insight into the early arrival of advanced civilizations in central Mexico, while also providing lessons about the risks to ruins posed by modern development that now cover much of the ancient city.

The Olmecs dominated areas around the Gulf coast states of Veracruz and Tabasco from 1,200 B.C. to about 400 B.C.

Some had speculated that the signs of Olmec influence found at Zazacatla and other areas far from the Gulf coast might suggest Olmec settlements, conquests or missionary sites.

characteristic Olmec sculptures are usually seated and naked with their legs crossed and arms to the front

in other words
this is an example of an olmec statue and not a relic from the new site
besides which the newspaper got it wrong anyway

Olmec scultpures usually are characterised by being found at Olmec sites
they do not all have crossed legs and arms to the front and despite what some total cranks who refuse to look at any facts that aren't formed by their personal belief might say
they very rarely look negroid

Well, I did my best. i'm always frustrated by these stories with no pictures, so I went googling.

but as its a typical Olmec settlement what are you expecting to see

My favourite olmec head is the Alien one
no one mentions that though because it doesnt look like a negro

but the best thing about the olmec heads
