Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
The total surface area of planet Earth is over 500,000,000 sq km, so the chances of a direct hit on any one person, even with a 1 sq km asteroid, are over five hundred million to one against.
Of course a strike by a 1 sq km meteor would be an extinction level event. Mind you, if it hits within say 1,000 km of where you are you probably won't notice it for more than maybe a second or two.

Updated Dec. 28, 2007 -- Astronomers have identified asteroid 2007 WD 5 in archival imagery. With these new observations, scientists at NASA's Near-Earth Object Program Office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif have refined their trajectory estimates for the asteroid. Based on this latest analysis, the odds for the asteroid impacting Mars on Jan. 30 are now 1-in-25 -- or about 4 percent.
The odds have increased to 1 chance in 25. That sure would be something to see.
Anybody seen any updates on that asteroid's track anywhere? January 30th is next week. They ought to be able to be very precise on its trajectory by now, shouldn't they?

Wear a helmet that day, just in case.
