The Old World is a reference to those parts of Earth known to Europeans before the voyages of Christopher Columbus; it includes Europe, Asia and Africa.
Could this chicken be the remains of Peter’s fabled cock?
Well, if Peter's cock was the size of a chicken he must have been one well-endowed founder of the R. Catholic faction. Now, why did Jesus refer to Peter as the rock? This is a part of Christianity that needs further investigation -- was it because he was rock hard all the time, or what? Have I been banned yet? Did Peter become the #1 heir to the heavenly throne since size REALLY mattered in Roman times? Inquiring minds need to know!
Most Bible scholars without an agenda agree that Jesus was referring to himself when he used the Greek word “petra”, in the feminine, after using the Greek word “pertos”, in the masculine, as Peters name. In other words Jesus was referring to himself as the “rock mass”, not Peter.
The fact that later on the apostles were still arguing among themselves as to which was greater shows they did not take Peter as be appointed as some kind of leader.
Saint Augustine even changed his mind about Peter being the “rock mass” in his later writings.
In his later life, even though he was the first one to “open the doors of the kingdom” to non-Jews by preaching first to the Samaritans and then the Romans, Peter spent the major portion of his ministry in Babylon preaching to the Jews there. Unlike Paul, he seems to have much more comfortable talking to those he had a familiarity with.
There is no creditable evidence that he ever was in Rome.
Those with an agenda think that the whole thing was made up to give textual support to the crowd that wanted to centralize the bureaucracy in Rome.
As Bart Ehrman has shown, the texts have been repeatedly tampered with for all sorts of reasons.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

A 2,000-year old Roman city will rise again in Tiberias as part of a new archeological park, Mayor Zohar Oved and the Antiquities Authority announced this week.
The Berko Archeological Park honors former Finance Ministry official Ozer Berkowitz, a longtime community leader in Tiberias who died last year. It will extend across approximately 100 dunams, or about 25 acres, and include a Roman bathhouse frequently mentioned in Rabbinic literature and a Byzantine city wall. Planners hope to complete the park this summer.

The oldest arched gate in the world, located in Ashkelon, has been restored, nearly four thousand years after it was first built. The Canaanite gate, which was constructed around 1,850 BCE as part of the port city's fortifications, is believed to be the most ancient arched gate in the world. The mostly brick and limestone gate is 15 meters long, more than 2 meters wide and almost 4 meters high.
Includes a nice picture.

Israelis and Palestinians may not be able to agree right now on their present or future, but, if a pair of Los Angeles archaeologists have their way, they soon will see eye to eye on their past.
Working tirelessly for the past five years, Ran Boytner, a University of California, Los Angeles archaeologist and Lynn Swartz Dodd, an archaeologist at the University of Southern California, have guided a team of prominent Israeli and Palestinian archaeologists to arrive at the first-ever agreement on the disposition of the region's archaeological treasures following the establishment of a future Palestinian state.
"Israelis and Palestinians never previously had sat down to achieve a structured, balanced agreement to govern the region's archaeological heritage," said Dodd, a lecturer in religion and curator of USC's Archaeological Research Collection. "Our group got together with the vision of a future when people wouldn't be at each other's throats and archaeology would need to be protected, irrespective of which side of the border it falls on."
Min, I have struggled with your comment for a few days. Not only does that silly hat have to go, but I ain't wearing no robes. A tank top, shorts and sandals -- WTF -- it's Italy!
Maybe I could be Pope for about a week on a trial run to determine how I like the new position -- excommunicate a few people (Ted Kennedy, Fidel Castro), appoint some new saints (Jessica Simpson, Kate Winslet), stuff like that. I would excommunicate Bush, but he's not Catholic. Whether Jessica or Kate are Catholics makes no difference to me. Then again, Michelle should have sainthood conferred upon her for putting up with all of us!

Asherah was, of course, finally driven underground by the reformist parties that edited the Hebrew Bible. In its final form she is written out of the text. Hence, she disappeared and all her cult imagery with her when Jewish monotheism at last triumphed in the period after the Israelites returned from the Babylonian exile.f But Asherah was once alive and well; modern archaeology has in fact resurrected her. Her “houses,” now vacant, were once occupied. Here she was “at home” for many of the masses in ancient Israel.
This one will piss off Arch so much that I have to send it to him.
