The Western Hemisphere. General term for the Americas following their discovery by Europeans, thus setting them in contradistinction to the Old World of Africa, Europe, and Asia.

popelane24, after reading your post I too was flabbergasted at how someone could so distort a simple comment. it reminded me of the pass it on game where you whisper in the person's ear next to you some bit of info and they whisper the same info as they heard it to the person next to them and so on and so on and then ask the last person what the info was and it is totally different, only you distorted my comment to the very first place you posted. well that being out of the way, i decided to make myself available to answer any questions that may be asked about the indiana artifacts that have been found. anyone that has specific questions can always email me at doninger@sbcglobal.net. I am neither an archaeologist, scholar, or student. just a regular joe that came upon some stone tools while fishing in tennessee. that was five years ago and have since put together a unique assemblage of lithics unlike any found thus far in the u.s. or at least if they have i am not aware of them. one thing that seems to be lacking in the proposed preclovis site finds so far are unambiguous tool technology. one writer commenting on the coprolites from oregon said that the site lacked a coherent set of tools to go with the poop. it seems the debate is endless in regard to who has the real preclovis toolkit. collins at gault says that he has and that goodyear's topper tools are geofacts, goodyear is convinced that he has the real deal and on and on it goes. lower and middle paleo tools found in other places in the world are clearly recognizable lithics. neandertal sites almost always yield a unique tool technology that is clearly identifiable. one reason being they are found in sufficient numbers to actually see the industry. so far this has not been the case in/re: to the preclovis sites here at home. well, i could go on and on..if there are any questions about the indiana stuff please feel free to ask. and yes ,there are handaxes in north america, and levallois points, and levallois cores and core tools, and burins on levallois blades, and tools on levallois flakes, and mousterian style points, and acheulean style choppers and cleavers. and yes i am kind of a nut but i also have the artifacts mentioned. i bet charlie hatchett has been called a nut too, but personally i don't think so. hang in there charlie.......rick d.
I visited Charlie's site in Texas last year and he has some amazing stuff.
Still waiting for definitive dating to be reported.
I don't suppose you have any photos, Rick?

Charlie has thoroughly documented his finds. Many pictures and explanations of his work can be found on this site. We'd all love to see what you have Rick so pictures would be great.
i grew up in South Bend. As a kid i used to dig up the back yard and any other place i could get to without getting in trouble. Naturally, i had no clue what i was doing and was discouraged by my mother who never seems to think anything important has ever happened wherever she is. If you have found the real deal it would be nice to know that i was only a few hundred miles off.
Also, please use the enter key. i very nearly didn't even bother reading your post because it was just one big block of smashed together text.
sorry about the jumbled text, i am an old guy that is still trying to stumble thru this computer stuff, hope you all will be patient with my feeble attempts and yes i will be posting a few pics soon and as i do so any helpful hints are appreciated....rick d.
Awesome! Can't wait to see 'em. i've never posted a picture here so others can help you more, but i know on most message boards it is easiest to upload the pictures to a site like photobucket or flickr then simply post a link.
i sent some pics to michelle, hope she can post them to the forum for ya'll , I didn't know how to post pics to this . you will be able to say you seen it first on this site, just a sample of the collection. any input or questions will be welcome.....rick d.
First you have to host the photos on the web. I suggest Photobucket.com which is a free service and also has a bulk uploader feture which is quite a time saver.
Once all the photos are uploaded each one will have a url.
Photobucket will then show an IMG Code for each picture which you can click on and copy (Ctrl-C) and then paste into your reply. If you copy Photobucket's IMG Code you do NOT have to use the Img bracket feature in the reply window as this will duplicate the Img feature.

Let me see if I can help. Be right back.
Okay we're back and it's fixed.
Rick, sorry I did not get back to your e-mail. I've been away for most of the day.
I'll send you a PM on how to do this.
If you look at your message and click the 'edit' button, you can write descriptions to the photos to tell us what we are looking at. I've left a space between each one for that purpose.
I'll be around, so let me know if you need help.
Michelle

I am rather curious to hear what the readers think they are looking at, I can tell you that they are mostly flint, with the exception to the few pieces of bone and petrified wood. Due to the picture quality , much detail is missed but virtually every piece has clear evidence of human manufacture such as bulbs of percussion, impact marks, retouch, etc.
I would love to hear from some lithic experts. Keep in mind that all pieces are small enough to be hand held. The book that is shown is the book by Dibble and Debenath on lower and middle paleolithics from europe. Let the scholars speak up.......rick d.
I can see quite a few obvious projectile points but its harder to see where they may have been hafted, or how. Also, something to give the pictures a sense of scale would be useful....such as placing a ruler in the photo. You did this a couple of times, either by holding the piece or placing them on the book. That helps.
It's an impressive collection, though.
