An Indian shaman (American or India?) in Denmark?

The Old World is a reference to those parts of Earth known to Europeans before the voyages of Christopher Columbus; it includes Europe, Asia and Africa.

An Indian shaman (American or India?) in Denmark?

From today’s News page.

”Apart from its phallic representation, the man in the motif seems to have some form of head dress with animal ears – possibly in the tradition of an Indian shaman.”

I looks a lot like it could come from this side of the pond, but then if you look at the Sammis (maybe it has only 1 m) their music and patterns in blankets and such, are all very much like what you would find in many N.A. tribes. I know that the Sammis are from the northern parts of Norway and Sweden, but that particular artifact could have been traded or given as a gift to a bride to help her with reproduction, something like a good omen.

I agree, Leona.

It also occurs to me, though, that all the Samis wear head-dresses, whether they are shamans or not. They have high cheek bones and are very Mongolian-looking, as are the Nepalese and Native Americans.

Here's a pic of them:

However, what does give it away as shamanic/ritualistic is the size of his you know what.

I don't know about the UK but on this side all men like to depict themselves with large you-know-whats. They're born with that mind-set, because it's their prized possesion.

I guess one of my concerns was the writer assumes the modern Dane is so unaware of what a shaman was that he had to use the image of a Hollywood Indian “Medicine Man” to explain.

Min...the Egyptian god of.....condoms, I guess.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.
