The mention of flint is especially interesting.

Along with the use of Hematite,

Heat treating flint and other fine grained stones

For better workability in the knapping process

Is a world wide and ancient phenomenon.

What is pretty cool is that the physical structure of the stone

Changes with heat treatment,

So points or tools so treated have

A distinctive molecular footprint.

Enquiring minds wish to know...........

In answer to your final query,

Dogs AND boats.
