Really? Which "part of Britain" would that be?
All that north of the Great Glen.
No I didn't! I dismissed the non action of the EU states in Bosnia because Bosnia wasn't, and isn't, a member of the EU. Which is not the same as Europe.
Granted, thus your security via the EU was useless, but again you have misinterpeted British English. In Britain the two words are used interchangeably and I live in Britain, sorry!
Our press virually always uses the word Europe rather than EU, I followed that convention.
In the same token the majority of Americans will call Britain 'England,' and you will also find that illegal immigrants state that they want to get to 'England.'

It was. In the geological pre-Cambrium. Literally over an aeon ago. By that definition the entire Euro-Asian landmass is "part of North America"...
Or vice versa of course!
But it's not according to the definers of the continents, the map makers and rulers of the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, whose definitions are still the international standard afaik.

Huh? "My security via the EU"? The UK wasn't a member of the EU?
Whatever EU responsibilities there are, are by default – well, by treaty really – also UK responsibilities.
And again: EU security pledges are mutually pledged to EU members. Not to non EU members, obviously. Bosnia wasn't a member.

I must be imagining things... Did I hear that correctly? Is the empire of Shakespeare fielding a colloquial, and decidedly working class lack of nuance and comprehension in defense of ignorance? I never thought I'd see the day!

It was.
Agreed, as was Greenland, you didn't place a time limit on your comment.
Bosnia wasn't a member.
So the fighting could be ignored of course.
if not rural – lack of nuance and comprehension
Probably, as with the use of 'little Englander,' which ignores the greater part of the UK completely, thus we are all guilty as charged.

No, those imaginary security pledges of yours could be. For a while. Until humanitarian motives and other treaties/alliances – NATO – superceded the EU position.

NATO is a military organisation. The EU is a political organisation.
NATO has the wherewithal the EU does not.
NATO can, the EU can't.
Yet.

NATO can, the EU can't.
Granted, which neatly completes the circle concerning your comment about the security we obtain from EU membership. None!

If you want them you can propose it in Brussels (after the minor matter of convincing the Brit public), can you not? Be my guest. You're a full EU member, a big boy, right? But the UK doesn't. Why not? Because they don't want it. They rather invest in NATO with a fading bully superpower 4,000 miles away whose language they think they speak!
It's a choice.
But that choice the UK, as a full member of the EU, has sofar made for NATO instead of for the EU makes a credible EU military force by the other members unrealistic and less than usefully effective.
A.k.a. Realpolitik.
With the UK playing the part of the spanner in the works.
Not generally considered an endearing quality.

Well that fading bully power is the only hope for peace if you idiots start fighting again. You can also tell the bully that you do not wish to partake in any way in the missile shield that's currently under discussion.
You can also tell them that if Europe erupts into flames yet again you want them to stay out. I'll bet!
Also if that bully power hadn't broken the USSR the EU would be somewhat smaller than it currently is wouldn't it?
And you ducked the one about security pledges BTW.

The EU is a political and economical, and increasingly a legal union! Not a military union. (No) Thanks to the UK!
So there are no EU security pledges! Thanks to spoilsport UK!

I'm amazed! I didn't realise we had so much authority. Well at least you're not blaming the fading bully this time.

Doesn't make him any less of one of course.
I lively remember our trusted military partner of decades threatening us directly with invasion in 2003! I don't forget that easily. Least of all forgive that betrayal. To me the US are dodgy backstabbers.

And I'm old enough to remember another trusted partner actually doing it!
Perhaps you should remember that as well.Image

Nazi Germany certainly wasn't a 'trusted partner' of my country! We did not have military treaties with them. The UK did! Remember Chamberlain? He trusted his treaty partner. And we all know what came from that.

Never said it was, I meant today! One of the reasons for the EU was to curb German military power.
Munich was not a military treaty.
