In those days gentlemen there was a waiting list for anything with more than 3 wheels and the manufacturers had a captive market, hence the reason I rode Japanese motor bikes.
Things are somewhat better these days I'm glad to say.

One last thing on my car saga and back to archaeology---contacted a friend who knew I tried to buy the 300SL and he said "OH--you mean the one that used to belong to Gary Cooper?" OMG
