Bosnian pyramids...again.

The Old World is a reference to those parts of Earth known to Europeans before the voyages of Christopher Columbus; it includes Europe, Asia and Africa.

Hey, the End Of The World guy is back too saying he only missed by 5 months.

Some people will believe anything!
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Sounds like the same old con to me. Anybody see anything there that would change your opinion about him (Osmanagic) or his claim?

I have not been on site, so everything I know is second hand.

An informal survey of those “experts” with a public opinion seem to fall into two camps.
Those that have visited the site and those who haven’t.
Few of the non-visitors are “believers.”
Among the visitors, we either get believers or at best non-committal.

Due to his approach to publicity, Osmanagich may be his own worst enemy in any search for respectability.
He certainly is not making friends among the establishment.

And that would include the regular “science” reporters who would normally report on a story like this. Those reporters cannot risk their relationships within the industry by coming out in favor of him.
The reporting has to be done by, at best, tourist and travel reporters, and most often just your normal story of the day reporters.

But that lack of respect has to be expected.
Everything he finds upsets another apple cart.
He has been quoted as saying “Everything they taught us is wrong.”
That is a pretty sweeping statement.
Because of that kind of bluntness, he has to go around the establishment to get publicity and thus funding.

The fact that he is successful in funding the project this way upsets the establishment even more. As things are found it weakens their creditability.

So, my vote is not ready to be cast on this one.
It seems REALLY out there.

But so have some other recent things:
Because of their size, the mud brick pyramids in Peru just had to be “natural hills.”
The artifacts and sites being found in the Amazon basin showing a pre rainforest civilization.
The demise of Clovis first.

I would suggest you both just sit back, and agree to disagree for a while.

Are there any non Bosnian professional archaeologists who are believers ?

His discipline is sociology , so any comments about what he/we has/have been taught should only relate to that .
Maybe if he had had a background in archaeology we wouldn't be discussing this .

“Maybe if he had had a background in archaeology we wouldn't be discussing this .”
If he had a background in archaeology he wouldn’t dare bring up the subject.
All his schooling would have been for naught. He would never get any kind of position in the industry.
He would be a black balled pariah.
He can only do what he is doing because he is an “outsider.”

An Egyptian “expert” named Aly Abd Alla Barakat, originally claimed to have been sent by Zahi Hawass, wrote a report in 2006 supporting the man made claim.
Hawass, who has more to lose than anybody if this turns out to be true, immediately dis-claimed the guy. Shot him down in flames. I hope he has a good sized 4401K plan.

It will take a rogue, probably retired and with nothing to lose, independently wealthy, expert with well know credentials to support the concept before it gains quick acceptance.
And even then it is doubtful
Otherwise it is destined to sit on the sidelines as the opposition is slowly chipped away by the passage of time and as people retire and die.

The Nazca Lines are a classic example. They sat out in the desert, semi-known, until Daniken made his fantastic claims. That got them into the public eye. To dis-prove Daniken, “respectable” researchers, funded by respectable sources, had to go and inspect them. But that didn’t happen until they were publicly known and a lot of controversy generated.

If he knows it or not, I think Osmanagich may be performing the Daniken role for his site.

Daniken , with his fantastical claims may have attracted greater attention for Nazca than Kosok and Reiche at that time but there is little doubt that
without him the monuments would have become known eventually .The differerence is that the Nazca monuments were obviously genuine and their discoverer
was not a charlatan .

Really? That's not what Robert Schoch said.

I maintain my conviction that there are NO pyramids at Visoko, Bosnia. Rather, all the so-called pyramids are the result of natural geological processes and phenomena that are currently being “excavated” (i.e., modified) to look like pyramids.

I know it is hard to prove a negative.

But……

As I said I am not yet casting my vote.
