i am going to ignore hal of your postr as you seembent on poutting down not reading what i wrote.
Some people feel that magic is an acceptable solution when other solutions are too difficult or too slow in the coming. Some people do not.
faith and God working is not magic, magic is an illusion whereas God's inervention is a physicall action which does change results--miracles do happen and can onlybe attributed to the work of God (not talking about the crying madonna or weird things like that but real miracles).
I think we agree that any tool can be used and/or misused
i can agree and i can agree that many evangelicals as well as othe religious people do abuse and misuse the tools,in thier haste toprove what they believe they undermine themselves with their statements and actions.

one reason i haven't jumped on the bandwagon of this latest 'discovery' is that i am not sure if God is going to allow us to find the ark. my reasons are as follows:

first off, the question arises if He would allow that to happen, would it destroy faith? faith is the prime way to please God and to demonstrate to Him that people want Him and not what he can provide.

secondly, how could they prove it to be the ark? unless found intact and exactly like it is described in genesis, it would be very difficult to convince anyone that it is the real ark. this skepticism and ridicule may make it even harder to do the workof Christ.

The tragedy of religion is that when the scientific method can't be applied to something
the scientific method (and the math method) cannot be applied all the time to biblical and spiritual things. that is just an impossibility. the same goes for the archaeological method. there are just too many limitations which prohibit such application. this does not mean that those disciplines are wrong, or out of touch, just that their scope has been defined in such a way that they cannot be elevated to divine status and remove faith from the equation.

'without faith you can not please God"
reach out for any answer that satisifies their child-like desire to have answers NOW
one of the sad things about the evangelical/religious world is that somany refuse to grow up and that their leadership stunts their growth. it is one reason why i avoid many of the churches. so in essence i agree with you here as well, the religious take being children to seriously and forget that paul says we need to become spiritual adults.

"when i was a child i spake as a child, when i became an adult i put off childish things"

i wish the evangelical world would do just that and grow up.

Okla. Team Gives Away Biblical Bobbleheads
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Because they are right-wing religious fanatics who think believing in myths and idolizing those who use it for thier benefit will be the answer to their prayers and take care of all their problems.

Also, Christians love showing the world their hypocrisy.

Technically, sure. Magic is illusion. Your god's supposed intervention is an illusion as well. You may intone faith and claim that that isn't so until you're blue in the face and I may intone science until I'm blue in the face. Nevertheless, gaps in human knowledge are the only place your god has room in which to work his miracles and those gaps get smaller and smaller and smaller as time marches on.

Just because we don't understand how any given thing happens or works does not instantly mean that a supernatural being is responsible. This is the tragedy I'm talking about. That explanation of events is a cop out.

Why? Because they are being deceived by Satan, everybody knows that. They aren't true christians.

BTW, arch, I was telling my wife about the Tulsa Drillers' promotion night and she said "they probably have a jesus bobblehead."

She was right.

In fact, she was more right than she knew.

that isn't true you only think He is limited to those gaps as you place science higher and higher on apedestal it does not deserve.

ha ha ha the cop out comes when you attribute the working of God to science. you are looking for an excuse not to believe. do you think that God is limited to miracles that go beyond science and math???

so you are saying just because science explains it then God had no hand in it??/ ha ha ha ha.

There is no god. God was a creation of primitive minds to explain their surroundings.

Many of us are moving beyond that need.

If you want to jump in the ring with Occam for a slug fest, be my guest.

edit:
As for looking for excuses not to believe, I don't need science for that. I've read the bible enough times to do the trick. ;)

then you have exercised your freedom of choice given to you by God. that is a characteristic you will find absent in the theory of evolution, for evolution has no ability to choose, how can it 'develope' it in subsequent species? it can't

logic demands that all prodigny(sp) of evolution be robotic because there is no capibility to think for oneself in the theory nor any foundation to establish that process.

if there is no God, how did freedom of choice develope and why is there a concept of sin, of right or wronjg or immorality?? none of these concepts have a foundation in the evolutionary theory and by your reasoning should not exist at all?

then again, if there is no God, why are you so bothered about me writing there is? this is a website for differring opinions, if i am wrong, youwould not be worried about what i write. i am not forcing anything down your throats, just presenting my side of the coin which includes archaeology and science so it fits here.

given to you by God.

God had nothing to do with it. The human brain was formed by evolution.

your life, your choice but don't ever talk to me about objectivity and what is or isn't science. because now you are biased and have pre-drawn conclusions.
