Archaeologist, William Dever, opines that the Israelites were formed from the residue of the Late Bronze Age cultures of Canaan which collapsed at the end of the 13th century BC.
Archaeologist, Israel Finkelstein, opines that the Israelites were formed from nomadic tribesmen who were forced to become sedentary because their sources of grain were lost when those same LBA cities fell.
Dever cites the continuity of religion and pottery. Finkelstein cites the formation of Israelite or proto-Israelite settlements in the Eastern hill country.
Dever claims that settling nomadic tribesmen would have starved to death before they could learn to be farmers. Finkelstein points out that it has happened many times in the ME...most recently under the Ottoman Empire.
What seems plausible to me is that when the Egyptians under Merneptah came barreling through they displaced Dever's Canaanites, forcing them to the East where they comingled with Finkelstein's herders. The depredations of the Sea People, in the early 12th century would have been an addtional factor in shoving Canaanites away from the coast, or, at least in preventing them from returning. Each side had skills that the other needed for survival, although Dever's group would have been the more advanced culturally.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

ok. follow up with the history that led up to constantine - the "holy" roman empire - and you have a royal flush.

I've got no problem with that review.
He's being a tad polite, though. Jacobovici was outright lying when he said the Ahmose stele 'mirrored' the plagues of the exodus.
By the end of the film I grew weary of the piling-on of amazing discoveries. Each one is historically dubious and requires a willing suspension of disbelief.

William Dever, opines
Israel Finkelstein, opines
Dever cites
Finkelstein cites
Dever claims
not one statement of fact, just their opinion based upon speculation. kenneth kitchenwarned that archaeology was full of opinions based upon the same evidence, so i won't take dever's or finkelstein's word forit but i think i will go with my theory though.Finkelstein points out

Don't blame Dever and Finkelstein for my shorthand accounts of their theories.
Unlike you, they have enough evidence to fill books.
You? Have got shit for evidence.

You are wrong, arch. Artifacts are facts. UNpleasant ones to you since they dash your fables to smithereens.
Keep working. Just remember that 'wishful thinking' is not evidence anywhere outside of a creationist web site.

You forget that I am totally disinterested in the bible.
As far as I'm concerned the whole region merits consideration.
You should be a little more tolerant of the Persians. Without them you wouldn't have any Jews to worship.

That's what the article was about....Persian water works. If it were about a Assyrian fertilizer factory, I would have posted that too.
