My own view is, you need a grain a sand to irritate the oyster to create the pearl (of wisdom).
If we don't tolerate the odd bit of cut and thrust on here, we'll end up like one of those gentlemen's clubs where everyone spends all their days dozing on over-stuffed leather armchairs under their copies of The Times.
John, I think that the odd 'outbreak' we've had on here has been pretty mild compared to the continual postering and flaming that goes on elsewhere. There has been great open mindedness and tolerance for some of my ideas which I would probably get savaged for on other forums. A couple of years ago, I was on the Hall of Ma'at defending my views on the AIT, and I was attacked, sometimes quite viciously, by around 15 posters all at once, and it went on for three days solid.
However - and I say this Beags with respect - I don't think that we should patronise one another. To say to RS that he is 'lucky to be on a big forum' is, imho, not fair. Either RS meets the criteria to be on this forum or he doesn't. I don't think it's right to allow someone on and then make them feel that they have to be grateful for the honour.
I would also like to say, Beags, that as one of the original members of this board, you might feel that that puts you in a position to say what is the norm and to decree who falls below it, or outside it. But there's been quite a few new members lately, and as new people come on, so the general consensus will also grow and evolve - and I think that that's how it should be if we are to stay fresh and alive.

Ishtar, I really wish that John had not decided to open an entire thread about this for some silly grandstanding. But, he did. I have to say now that your post is one of the most disengeuous that I've seen here, and as you say, I've been around for awhile. It may interest you to note that RS joined this forum before I did. We are old acquantinces. John, however, thought it would be cool to open this thread and grandstand a bit. Bordering on gibberish as usual.
Firstly - Ishtar, over the last six months, you have been the sole person to attack people, often viciously. You know that - I count off the top of my head at least four people.
Secondly - You reference new people. Ask Dannan about that. We're very fortunate that he is still here.
Thirdly - I think somewhere you have described yourself as a journalist of sorts. I notice that you have quoted me in your post. Well Ishtar, you would be fired from any credible news agency for putting words in quotes that don't exist. That's pretty damn sad.
Lastly - I would like for this very inappropriate thread to sink down where it belongs. I don't want to respond again and I hope that I don't feel compelled to.
Have a nice day.

... and that's not a vicious outburst?
Beags, I always find it's better to have your breakfast before you post.

I'm eating it as I speak Ishtar. That is a bullshit statement. Everything I said above is absolutely true and you can't run from it. There is a whole lot of nonsense going on in this forum and everybody knows it.
Now, I'm done with breakfast. I am going to do what I do. I'm asking again - you guys should just chill out please.

Beags - you seem to be the only person who's upset here.
I don't deny anything you've said. We've all admitted we've been at fault, from time to time, and I apologised for my last two, at the time.
My point, which you've so nimbly tried to avoid by hiding behind a personal attack on me, is that no-one should say to anyone that they are lucky to be on this forum, as if they are somehow some sort of second class citizen who everyone is tolerating.
If you think any of my views are nonsense, please say so at the time and we can discuss it. It appears to me, from what you say in your last posts (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that you've been building up some resentment to the fact that we've been discussing shamanism - but not actually addressing these posts at the time. Is that it, or am I wildly off? If I am, please say what you mean by "There is a whole lot of nonsense going on in this forum and everybody knows it," and then we can identify what your problem actually is.
In the meantime, imo John doesn't talk gibberish and I think it's disrespectful of you to say that his remarks border on it. I would hate it if John left the forum because of your insults.

I see this is not starting off to be a great day!
I think I'll go back to sleep.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

This thread is actually amusing to me. Please, everyone, realize that i mean no disrespect to anyone, but consider for a second that we are a small, isolated tribe. Winter is nearly over, but its still not summer yet. Tensions have grown over the last few months and are starting to simmer. This is the point where our shaman or other appropriate spiritual guide would allow the conversation to heat up to a point just before it boils over before stepping in to calm the waters.
We're all adults here. We're all thinking adults here. We all know we are going to disagree on some point with just about everyone else here.
i'm a gamer. That means i read several forums where flaming, ad hominem attacks, and all out nastiness are the norm. This forum does not share those characteristics. It is okay to be concerned that bickering could lead us down that path. But the fact is when things start to boil over, at least one of use will step in and say "Hey, let's clear the air". So i'm saying it

This should calm the waters a little.
Stuart Brown describes Norbert Rosing's striking images of a wild polar bear coming upon tethered sled dogs in the wilds of Canada's Hudson Bay.

The photographer was sure that he was going to see the end of his dogs when the polar bear wandered in, but ...

The Polar Bear returned every night that week to play with the dogs.

The moral? If these guys can all get on - then so can we!
