Exactly Min, makes you wonder who makes up these lists, even the Walrus is on our list!

The CITES list has to do with trade.
Maybe it means you can't import wolves or bears into Wales?
Probably not a good idea with all the sheep in any case.

Which leads me ask why there is a list for each country, if you can't trade 'em you can't trade 'em.
It appears Min that certain groups have jumped on the bandwagon again. CITES was supposed to prevent trade in endangered species rather than having anything to do with importing species that might be a hazard in their adopted country
The Walrus, the Brown Bear, the Red Fox and the Timber Wolf might be a hazard here, but endangered they are not!

Appropos which, a posting from another (US) board :
Last night I was out in my back field where I have found a few points and a bunch of pottery and flakes. This is the back of a pasture that has woods on 3 sides, and more pasture on the other side. It's over half a mile from the nearest road, and there is a volunteer fire station on that road. Well just before dark, the fire alarm went off. I'm used to hearing my dogs howl at it, but let me tell you, it was very cool and also pretty creepy when three coyotes began to howl in the woods to my left, right, and behind me. My dog was with me and he about had a fit.
I love nature and I love wildlife, but I do think I'll carry my pistol next time I'm out there

Coyotes attacking humans is a very, very rare event. Those two must've been very hungry to go after adult humans.

"Rare" doesn't mean squat when it's you they're on -- for whatever reason (which was probably not hunger-related). Or your child. Or your dog.

I'd wonder if they were rabid. That can change behavior in animals.
Occasionally we hear about a mountain lion attack - usually going after a lone jogger or hiker. But a mountain lion is a hell of a lot bigger than a coyote.

Just found this thread today so, happy belated birthday, Roy! At 70, I don't think you can receive too many well wishes. 
Also, what a birth story! I love how crazy birth dates can get even in well documented historical times. My great great grandmother was born in 1898 according to all the records I can find on Ancestry.com but she thought she was born in 1900. She's gone now, but I'd sure like to know where the confusion came from.
