In today's clip, Dr Russell speculates on the mind-set of the Neolithic people who built Stonehenge, and why he's finding topsoil packed into the bluestone holes. Were they attempting to "heal the wounds?", he asks.
Or perhaps to stop somebody stepping into them?

Waiting on some real science to emerge, instead of TV science. The heavens on a bluestone, with tiny planets, stars and constellations? I bet that description will not appear on a single scientific journal.

You laugh at that! That's nothing. When building the by-pass around Newbury in Berkshire they had a choice, divert the road or create an entirely new habitat then catch the Newts and move 'em.

What's this preoccupation with newts?
Are they afraid that one might be someone's ancestor who didn't "get better?"

One our protected species. Government, for years have been paying farmers to clear woodland, drain wetlands, fill in ponds, plow heath lands then one bright morning they wake up and find that wildlife has got nowhere to live.

Hmm...makes you think that perhaps the Romans prized the bluestones as much as the beaker folk (or whoever originally planted them...). Now, perhaps some enterprising Italian archeologist could have a close look at any blue-ish stones laying around Rome

Not strictly archaeology Shark, but your interests seem wide ranging. If nothing else it shows this government's continuing distaste for academia.
Sometime ago a minister suggested all such site were valueless and should be allowed to decay, with the proviso that a virtual tour was made available.
They make Phillistines look like art collectors this mob.
