Not to mention the extensive bibliographies they attach to their work.

What references does the bible incorporate?
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Asinine comment even by your standards.

Ask any cop or district attorney about the usefulness of eye-witness testimony.

Besides, you don't even have that. You have wishful thinking by parasitic priests.

knew you would say something to that effect.
I'm not surprised at all.
my reading material focuses on other topics and not the city itself.
Make sure you finish coloring them first
leave the insults at home, you have shown me that you are not credible.

I've been on jury duty 3 times. Twice I watched defense attornies demolish eye-witness testimony on cross-examination.

People can be trained to be more observant, of course. A cop on the stand will give details about his observation " male, caucasian, 6' to 6'2".
approximately 200 pounds, wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt."

John Q. Citizen would say " I saw a big white guy........." If they even remember that much.

In any case, it's irrelevant. The bible was concocted many centuries after the events it purportedly describes and there were no eye-witnesses involved. In fact, it was concocted after the Judahites developed writing.

Meet Mrs. God, Doc.

Ultimately, the campaign to eliminate the goddess has failed. "Asherah was buried long ago by the Establishment," declares respected biblical scholar William H. Dever. "Now, archaeology has excavated her." Dever is quite certain that he knows who the Asherah of ancient Israel and of the biblical texts is--she is the wife or consort of Yahweh, the one god of Israel. Many of his colleagues would agree.

Excellent!

Oddly enough, one of the references--Smith--tries to downplay evidence for the worship of Asherah--are the HB references for the specific goddess or a sort of representation. Day--whom I refer elsewhere, argues strongly for her.

Unlike many bible-thumpers, Dever discusses his critics' opinions, as well. It's been a while since I read the book but as I recall there was one tomb inscription that Dever relied heavily upon which some other scholars questioned.

In less dispute are numerous figurines of a woman with big boobs holding them up. Dever concludes that this was some sort of fertility cult which the hotshot priests in Jerusalem would have liked to have suppressed but the king wasn't stupid enough to piss off the women.

Oddly, those Kings who told the priests where to stick it were cited as being "bad kings" while those who did what the priests wanted were "good kings."

It's always like that with religion, I guess.

this is just denial not refutation by fact. proof this assertion, please.

even here in korea they sell topless figurines (usually african) in the stores. none of which have anything to do with fertility or a goddess.
