Papyrus may have been an important writing tool in Egypt but in the Middle East and Mesopotamia they tended to use clay tablets, ostraka, or carved inscriptions on the walls of important buildings.

There are plenty of clay tablets and ostraka but no buildings dated to the United MOnarchy. Odd how such a vast empire could vanish so completely.

Almost as if it never existed.

that is assuming israel adopted the canaanite method of writing at that time. replacing papyrus with clay tablets.

We've been through this many times.

There is no evidence WHATSOEVER of any Davidic empire at the time in question.

There is evidence of the rise of the civilization of Aram-Damascus and later of Omri's dynasty who alternated between fighting each other and resisting the Assyrians.

so we have but guess what the stele lends credence to it and oh oh oh the Bible is an ancient source so we do have evidence of the david/solomon time period.

since archaeology and science is limited it stands to reason that there will be times when evidence will be missed, mis-interpreted, ignored thus until we can dig up the whole country, we may never find the evidence you seek.

then if we do find the evidence how would we know it would be accepted since many people have already made up their minds? you really can't conclude because all the data is not in.

So which part of the stelae are you going to ignore?

The part which indicates that there was a historical Davidic dynasty?

Or the part where the kings of Israel and Judah were killed in battle against Aram-Damascus and not by the guy who the bible claims did it?

knowing your ability to mis-represent things i decided to research outside the book i am presently reading, knowing the author did not bring up the dilemma of the wrong name on the stela or in the Bible.

so i don't choose either optionas the Bible is not wrong.

in reading these sites i did not notice any discussion of the wrong name being used, so again your question is based on some theory that you have refused to post a link to to support your contention.

In a discussion of the TEL DAN Stela, you have presented 5 web sites about the MERNEPTAH Stela!

They are DIFFERENT rocks, arch.

The Merneptah stela, found in Egypt, contains the earliest reference to the 'people of Israel' defeated by the pharoah while campaigning in Canaan around 1210 BC.

The Tel Dan stela was erected by the king of Aram-Damascus (either Ben-Hadad or Hazael) to commemorate a victory over the Israelites and Judahites in which both of their kings were killed.

so again i will choose neither, there are too many ancient habits not being reported by you to make this question feasible.

you will have to provide chapter and verse in the Bible this stela refers to.
