We have all seen the hand wringing stories about what kind of stuff the dam in Iran is burying, hiding, forever putting out of reach etc., etc.
Why did I never see anything similar about this project?
I only know about it now because I get a building design/construction mag that had a story about the visitor center. I never heard about it in any kind of history or archaeology publication.
I find it hard to believe that with all that animal stuff found, that there wasn’t any human stuff found.
Does any body know more about this project?
It is obviously a long done fact by now, but in finding this much bone, and moving this much dirt, in this area, and nothing human?
No old shore lines? No old campsites? No Human remains?
I haven’t done a check of the local geography yet, but it obviously a somewhat natural bowl. That is why they picked it. If it was good enough for a mastodon, wouldn’t it be good enough for a mastodon hunter?

In Iran the biggest concern is loseing things related to Cyrus The Great. They like that kind of history, even though he was pre-Islam.

I had to go 7 pages into Google to find any mention of artifacts found during construction of the Diamond Valley Lake dam
And that was just a description of the museum display. Nothing older than the pre Colonial Indians.
Everything else is all about water skiing, fishing, bike trails, etc. etc. etc.

It's called maifest destiny kbs, and southern cali. has a lot of manifest these days. Took a trip there last year and I got to tell you a lot of the area looked like the mayan temples covered in trees. But it's all private and if anything is found the club jumps in and call's you stupid. Plus you have the politic's of water. Being from colorado, cali takes half our water, water is more precious than gold if you don't have enough. Ask cognito about the politic's of southern cali, water, arch., and the privatation of property.
I cannot say I know all the details, but I know Mr. Mulholland may have done more to change the history of the U S west coast than any other man.

They shut off the wells here last year, had a bunch of pissed off farmers. The laws keep changing every year. There's a good picture of the Colo river basin in here.

Perhaps, but current events often have a strong historical background.
And you do have to wonder what is under the water of some of those huge Western reservoirs. When those dams were built there were different priorities and feelings about “old stuff.”
It just seems to me that there may have been a bit if a return to that type of thinking in the case of the Lake Diamond Valley dams and reservoir.
It certainly seems to be the case in Iran.
Current needs trump archeology.
