Sorry WA, we won't be hearing the intellectual leanings of Viiagra XXX. He, she or it has been blown up....War Arrow wrote:I note with interest that our newest member is someone called Viiagra XXX. Oh [wipes single manly tear from corner of eye] to think what we, given time, might have learned from our dearly departed Viiagra XXX. I'm sure I speak for all of us here when I suggest that we should not mourn the passing of this short-lived, rather suspiciously named, poster, rather we should look to the future, we should build upon the good work for which Viiagra XXX might have lain foundations given a little bit more time. It's what he/she/it would have wanted...
Seriously though, Michelle. What is the point of these things? What do the programmers (or whoever) gain from having a non-existent person registered on a forum some place?
I suppose I'm still relatively new to the internet but things like this still seem really weird and pointless to me... for starters, you'd think if they're trying to sneak advertising in under the proverbial radar, Viiagra XXX might not be the most cunningly devised pseudoname.

Ever seen a forum spammed by these roaches, WA?War Arrow wrote:Seriously though, Michelle. What is the point of these things? What do the programmers (or whoever) gain from having a non-existent person registered on a forum some place?...
They do come back (here they must be approved to post but not all forums work this way) and they generally make a few posts loaded with links to all sorts of web sites lurking on the "dark-side" of the internet. Every click is money in their pockets and probably some malware for you. (or the most annoying are those endless loops which every click to close opens one more - arrggghhh!) The internet would really be fantastic if it weren't for these maliscious programs and scripts. I could care less if some guy wants to post porn or other types of crap but I draw the line when he wants to infect my computer with some damaging malware. It detracts from the wonderful freedom the internet was founded upon, imo.
