What do dogs do better than humans?

They hear better....their noses are better... they are territorial so they will bark when their territory is threatened.

In exchange for food the dog provided a cheap early warning system for the camps full of sleeping humans.

Cooperation always works best when it is in the interest of both parties.

The perfect symbiotic relationship. Dogs are exclusively hierarchical and bond to the leader of their pack. A cute little puppy brought to the campfire would probably bond immediately to the human providing food and care. Dogs also defend and protect their "pack" (ie humans).

Walking around Europe at 30,000bc with a few others and a couple of dogs would be relativley safe. They are an "early warning system" with big teeth.
