The Old World is a reference to those parts of Earth known to Europeans before the voyages of Christopher Columbus; it includes Europe, Asia and Africa.
Of course, one problem with this map is that the Black Sea was not flooded in 20,000 BCE. At least that's what I've read, most recently in the coverage of Dr. Ballard's work there.
I think they concluded there was a good sized fresh water “sea” that was below the saltwater sea level for some time.
It would have been a “dead end” lake, like the Dead Sea, but it never got as salty because of the volume of incoming water from the Russian and Balkan watershed.
So they theorized it had a slowly raising water level.
I don’t know if they fully mapped its shores, but they found all kinds of fresh water snail shells below the salt water ones in the cores.
Then the dam broke, and all hell broke loose.
I thought there was also a theory that there was a reverse flood...from the Black Sea into the Aegeanc 8,000 bc. That, might be consistent with ice age meltdowns and the release of massive floodwaters such as happened in North America?
Then...as sea water rose and the influx of freshwater ended...the flow could have reversed itself.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

We know that sea levels rose due to glacial melt. The questions on the Black Sea - no solid answers, yet, so if you know of one then do share.
My working hypothesis is that X mt DNA haplogroup evolved in the Black Sea area.
Can't recall where I saw that, E.P. I'll look around a little later when I have a chance.

EP, there are two deltas on the Mediterranean side of the Bosporus sill which apparently result from glacial melt. The older one is 14,400bp according to Ali Aksu et al. I believe the younger is somewhat near the termination of the YD, but cannot remember the date he published. The Manytch Lakes channel was open and flowing between the Caspian and Black Sea from about 17,000bc until sometime after 10,000bc. If you wish, I have citations at home.

Thanks - please post them here for others as well. Thanks for your effort - I can't find anything since my stroke.
The early advanced neolithic finds from the north shore of the Black Sea are very pretty, and my guess is that the remains of a very early advanced civilization from roughly the same time as the new site in Turkey will be found there as well, but as always, we'll just have to see.
Did a catastrophic flood of biblical proportions drown the shores of the Black Sea 9,500 years ago, wiping out early Neolithic settlements around its perimeter? A geologist with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and two Romanian colleagues report in the January issue of Quaternary Science Reviews that, if the flood occurred at all, it was much smaller than previously proposed by other researchers.
Using sediment cores from the delta of the Danube River, which empties into the Black Sea, the researchers determined sea level was approximately 30 meters below present levels—rather than the 80 meters others hypothesized.
“We don’t see evidence for a catastrophic flood as others have described,” said Liviu Giosan, a geologist in the WHOI Geology and Geophysics Department.

"Giosan and his colleagues estimate that the
Black Sea was around 30 meters below
present day levels (Black Lake is represented
by dark blue water) before a breach of the
Bosporus sill 9,500 years ago raised levels to
a maximum of 20 meters |(the flooded area is
represented by light blue water). Their
estimates mean that the magnitude of the
Black Sea flood was 5 or 10 meters but not 50
to 60 meters. (Jack Cook, Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution)"
So I read that to say that they think it was 9500 years BP.
But I am confused on what they think was the difference in water levels.
What ever it was it was not that big a change in the Black Sea shore line, but enough th creat the Azov Sea.
