Roman Temple and a Necropolis found in Bracara Augusta

Post by Albino Berenguer »

A Roman Temple from I-II AC and a Necropolis were found in Braga (Bracara Augusta), during excavation for the construction of a tunnel.

Archaeologist say it's a big building with 300 square meters, but the elections are coming and Braga´s Mayor wants to finish the construction of the tunnel without full archaeological excavations, for a proper decision.

The Roman Temple and Necropolis are at risk of being buried or even worst.

The mayor is the same for more than 30 years, in Braga already exist a Roman theater and a amphitheater(Coliseum), waiting for archaeological excavations and further rehabilitation...

Has been created a petition online to "SAVE THE TEMPLE".

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SaveTheTemple/

We need all the support that we can get, please support “the temple”, and pass the message!

Thanks, best regards.

P.S. Preliminary report in Portuguese, made by “Unidade de Arqueologia da Universidade do Minho”, email (arqinfo@uaum.uminho.pt)
