I guess 5000 years ago did not qualify as "the good old days."
The Alps seem to be a pretty rough neighborhood.

As I recall, the vast majority of the arrows that were found with the body were unfinished.
It seems the height of stupidity to walk around with only unfinished arrows in a dangerous environment which suggests that Oetzi had fired his supply of usable arrows. That implies combat to me rather than "murder."
It's a fascinating subject, though.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

Another scenario has occured to me. Perhaps Otzi was involved in some kind of crime in which his hand was injured. Maybe he killed someone in a fight. He made his escape into the mountains, but was chased by a "posse" for lack of a better word. He was shot in the back as if running away. Perhaps the other wound, the bruise was caused by a rock thrown from a sling, which would indicate two people attacked him. Lotsa possibilities.
