Interesting to say the least.
Of course, Sparta was one of the most warlike cultures ever and they did not have "walls" either. There must be "precursor" towns in the region, though. The kind of social organization being pictured simply does not develop overnight.

Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

It is nice to know that at least in one place a major city arose before armed conflict was an ever present danger. Weren't some of the old Indian sites like that too? Wide boulevards, no walls, just in that case massive evidence of invaders cutting down the locals by the hundreds.
